Ok this is my first time messing with this modding stuff and Im looking for some answers to my questions if anyone could help it would be appreciated and I did do a search and couldnt find all the info I was seeking. Here is the questions if you can help thanks.

1. If I already own an xbox can I send it somewhere to get modded I have seen places that sell them premodded but are there places that will mod them if you send them in if so what are some reputable places where I can send it.

2. I've never flashed a bios before so what mod chip would be the best for me . Do they come with a bios on them if not is it hard to do? I would also like to play live once in awhile what chip has an external switch

2. The 3 main chips (that are the best) are the Xodus/Matrix, x-ecuter 2 lite, and x-ecuter 2 pro.

The Xodus/Matrix modchip needs to be flashed. It is a no-solder chip and is pretty good. Only problem is that it sometimes slips out of place.

The x-ecuter 2 lite chip is what I'd recommend. It is pre-flashed, and very easy to solder. You also have a choice to use pogo-pins to make it a no-solder chip, but may cost extra.

The x-ecuter 2 pro is just like the x-ecuter 2 lite, but is not pre-flash and can have multiple bios (more than the x-ecuter 2 lite).

All these chips are re-flashable, so you can upgrade with newer/better bios as they come out. They can all have an on/off switch (easy to make external without drilling up holes).

He will install any modchip you want for $40 plus S&H.

Many people send their PS2s to him also to mod. He does good work. Every one I know who has send a game system to him has been very happy with him.

I suggest checking out the xbox-scene forum. They've got a board dedicated to finding people in your area that mod boxes.
That's how I got mine done. :D
