can anybody point me in the direction of a good tutorial or website that explains how to inject/remove exe for no cd crack etc. using win iso or other program?
Can do this easily if exe is visible in exploring the cd but if the exe
is compressed I seem to be stumped on how to go about removing etc. Anybody got any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

If it's in an installation cab file then use i6comp to extract the file.

after abit of research i have found this application but how can you then inject the new exe? win iso ? and will this method work and allow a crack to be applied into the new cd?
thanks in advance ghosthacker

If it is an installation cab file do this:

Copy the cab file and the hdr file to your hd
Remove the write protection
Copy i6comp.exe to the same directory
Copy the Fixed exe to the same directory
Go to the ms-dos box and change into that directory
Enter: i6comp r NAMEOF.CAB NAMEOF.EXE

This should replace one exe with another.

But be careful. If a crc check is performed during installation you may not be able to install it anymore!!!

If the exe is in a cab file, then use Winiso to extract all the cab files and the associated hdr file to your hard drive.

You need to run i6comp from the command prompt
you will need to type something like this to replace the original exe with the crack:
i6comp.exe r data1.cab game.exe game.exe

Search around for more detailed instructions on using i6como - there are also instructions in other threads posted here before - use the search button.

You can get a list of the commands for i6comp from the program itself

When you've finished editing the cab files, put them all back into the image using winiso.

getting close now!!!
after lots of attempts the best i can get is a message that says
"could not open data1.hdr"
any thoughts?
also how do you remove the write protection stated earlier before using icomp6 ? what is hdr?
sorry for so many questions but I am a newbie trying to learn
thanks in advance

Concerning the hdr problem: Make sure you copied into the same dir as the cab file. Also make sure to get rid of the read-only attrib!
Right click on the file --> properties --> uncheck the tab in front of write protected (or read only).

hi monty thanks for answering so quickly!
already checked there is no tick in read only in properties
this is a rar file compressed with the exe inside it called data1.cab
the exe inside is simJP.exe

Command line is fine...

Mmmh, is data1.hdr really in the same folder....I do not understand why it isn' working

The command you want to type is:
icomp6 r data1.cab simjp.exe simjp.exe

but that's not the problem - there is another version of i6comp about somewhere - one worked for me while the other didn't. The one I have is a zip file named i6comp02.zip and is about 121Kb in size. Also, if the game is new then i6comp may not be able to edit the cab files cos they've been updated.

You might find this thread (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33954&perpage=15&highlight=i6comp&pagenumber=2) useful

downloaded newer zip same error message typed command as you stated.hope i havent got a game that icomp cant run with
surely it cant be that well protected it already has securom
4.8 ?just to recap on what i have done so far>>>>
used win iso extracted iso of game
opened files using win iso then extracted to folder on desktop
the data1.cab compressed to a folder on my desktop.
in the same folder put the cracked exe that does work and icomp 6.
from the command line typed..... icomp6 r data1.cab simjp.exe simjp.exe
starts program running with error message...could not open data1.hdr!!!!

You didn't mention that you copied the hdr file to that folder as well - but I assume you did.
As it is Securom 4.8, it is a new game, and a lot of new games now have a new algorithm or whatever for the installation cabinet files - it's been updated. I don't think that this version of i6comp will handle the files you have.

Okay, last chance:

There a three reasons why this error message comes up:
(maybe there are more, but not for me at the moment :D)

1) data1.hdr cannot be found --> must be in the same folder
2) data1.hdr is write protected
3) i6comp version ist not compatible with this version of installshied (unlikely, cos i6comp then quits with an appropriate message).

oh well what a shame so close and yet so far !!!
typical my 1st attempt squashed!!!!thanks anyway perhaps a newer version of icomp may materialise eventually ?

monty why is it named data1.hdr?
when Im calling it data1.cab??
it is in the folder with the fixed exe and icomp its name from the folder is data1 a win rararchive compressed file at 289,205kb

Well, it's your time and all, but I would never have even tried doing that. What's the use ? When the next official patch gets out, you'll still need to copy the original executable after each install in order to be able to patch. Plus there seems to be about a thousand things that can go wrong if you mess with installers and cabs :D

logicwatch

the properties show it as not write protected in attributes there is no tick in hidden or read only could it be a locked file of somesort?

Monty Burns

@ Rince
Right, of course, but if somebody wants to do it to learn from it, why not.

@logicwatch
I am still confused. When there is a data1.cab then there should also be a data1.hdr or it is a new version where hdr file isn't needed anymore

if i explore the disc there is no folder or icon called data1.hdr
only data1 the compressed /zipped archive . heres a list of the disc contents......
autorun
autorun setup info
jpog icon
jurassic park operation genesis installer package
setup
direct x
data1
splash bitmap
should ther be another folder called data1.hdr?if so where does it hide and is it hidden???
thanks in advance

It may be hidden as you suggest - so in Windows Explorer goto Tools then Folder Options - then goto the View tab and make sure Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
