Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help me with this one....
I've just backed up Black Hawk Down, using Alcohol 120....Burnt it on a lite on rewriter, installed the software, when the start page comes up, using the back up, the options for single player and multi player are unavailable....However using the original it works fine??Alcohol came up with a read error at around 99-100% settings used where securom 4...Rpms read at 2x burnt @ 6.... any ideas would be really appreciated as to why......
Thanks in advance

Hey ya Mutt, ya when i ran this disc against clony it said no protection, but i have a feeling that there is some sort of cd loader thingy needed to run it. I made an image and installed the game using alcohol np but same as you when i go to run it nothing happens. So i wasted a cd thinking ya maybe it just needs a physical disc in the drive to run...nope lol. So ya if anyone has a suggestion regarding dis matter...let us know :)

fake toc.. common in 99.9% of novalogic games.. look for a big file usually 2+ gig.. thats what they check for to 'enable' the single player part in the menu.. tho i think black hawk down was also protected with securom or safedisc or something too

So i take it by the few replies that no one has yet made a sucsessfull backup of dfbhd, it has caused me problems to, infact the same as stated above, i used clony xxl v2.0.0.6 to scan and also ticked the box in the options that stated wether or not SonyDADC was on the inner ring of the cd. I also used Alcohol120 but then tried cloncd but sure enough once bacup was installed neither single or multi play were available. Someone must have the knowledge of gettin round this problem plz.

yes i to had the same probs with this one. When scanned with clonyxxl 2.0.0.6 it said "dummy files" for the protection. I used a profile holding out no hope and no good. So i tried to copy and paste contents to hard drive to burn with nero (you wouldnt belive how many games i have done this with) but alas when coppying to hard-drive there was the super big file size TippeX mentioned (reckond it would take 8947894 mins lol, and also i got aN error stating couldnot copy DFBHDI) So how did i do it ? ok you wont belive me but here it is lol..i used nero 5.5 plain and simple, this time just choosing the copy disk option and it did it no probs and quickly :D . Obviously this isnt a 1.1 copy but with a crack from here the game run perfectly. So there ya go ppl get nero fired up. (bare in mind i am taliking about the UK release which came out fri 28th March) Hope this sorts this lill bugger out 4 ya.
PS i dont pretend to know why this worked but it didv;)

For all those, who didn't notice by now:

Black Hawk Down is protected by Securom 4.84.69.0037. If you cannot create a 1:1 backup with your favorite soft and your hardware, be patient for gcw to update.....

Ok Monty Burns. a question if you dont mind ;) . I am wondering why nero was able to do a backup of this game when all the above mentioned soft wasnt ? (is this down to my cdrw? i think not but then and again i dont know). I can install no probs and with crack off GCW can play game perfectly?

Well, I don't mind. It is no prob copying a a sec 4.8.xx with nero. But it isn't 1:1. With other tools you gonna try a 1:1. This is hardware dependent and may take some time.
You can copy every game with nero (maybe ripping it to hd) when you use a working crack to play.

coffin filler, anyone and their mother can make copies of any SecuROM game using any copying software. But as you found out you need a crack in order to play it.

Edit: Goddamn it Montys post was not there, when I hit reply.

I think mabey i diddnt make my self clear. what i was trying to say (or ask) is why can Nero make a "working, not 1.1" back up of DFBHD when all the other tools mentioned above have trouble ie installs but cant access the single plaer or mulitplayer as its greyed out?. Most of my other back-ups are 1.1s but having said that they play on my cdrw and my cd-rom drives perfectly and no crack is needed but am i right to assume a proper 1.1 will play on any cd-rom drive and not just mine ? (mind you that dont realy matter as they are only for me anyway,im just curious and would like to know).

LOL but i am just trying to learn and i have learnt soooo much from GCW (about the best site i have come across for backing up games by far). Thats why i am able to copy games full stop :D And i havent come across one game i cant backup as of yet, Yet being the deffinative word here.

DFBHD should be protected with Securom new. There have been reports about securom new being able to be copied with incomplete copiers like Nero. This was described as a 'bug' in Securom new. So you might be just lucky. On the other hand, distributions in different countries tend to have different (or even none) protections. So could you use cdkiller's protection scanner (http://www.cdkiller2002.tk/) and tell me what it says ? Also, have you tried making an image on the hard disk with Alcohol120% and see if you can mount it ?

Had real probs myself with Black hawk. clone seemed to copy it ok but when i tried to install, got locked at 99% of the install shield!!! Not very good. I wonder if WinOnCd will let me do a "copy cd"??? If not, will give Nero 5.5 a go. Thanx Coffin.

@ RINCE. Ok i will scan with killers scanner and report back my findings. Intresting that mabey nero is able to sort out Securom new when others seem to struggle. (this is something i shall bare in mind for future reference,if it wasnt a stroke of luck). Like you said though about a game being protected in one country may have different protection in another. Well killers scanner will set that 1 straight so ill get on it.

@ gentle Hope it works for you to or you get that bit of luck aswell ;)

@ RINCE Update = according to killers scanner no or unknown protection. How ever i only scanned disk (not game directory) but i do know there is a over sized file in the game directory. This info any help ?

@ CD KILLER = if your reading this then just want to say this version is bang on and so much easier to use compared to earlier version i tried. (plus theres a pretty pic now aswell lol)

Nah, oversized is the traditional way for novalogic games, so that can be correct. Oversize CAN be copied with Nero, so it looks like your disc isn't protected with securom. Now the question is why Alcohol&clonecd didn't work for you, they shouldn't have any problems with oversized discs.

As it turns out, Clone DID copy Black hawk ok. Made the back up before trying to install my Original. when back up seemed to get "stuck" on 99% of intsall shield, i asumed that the back up was at fault. When i tried original, that did the same!! Stayed on 99% for about 1 min 30 secs, drive light flashing like mad, then.......game installed ok. Applied patch and game ran ok. Will try game without patch and will let you know.

Sorry taking so long to reply guys, Work commitments etc...
Nothing wrong with the back up whatsoever......Its Securom 4. the problem was the fact that i was running it off the CD Rewriter, stuck it on my dvd rom and no problems whatsoever...Weird thing is that i had clone cd hiding cdr material......never experienced that with any other back ups.......So the 1:1 copy is a success for me........
Once again thanks to everyone whop posted trying to help the muttster out:D

@ RINCE Now the question is why Alcohol&clonecd didn't work for you, they shouldn't have any problems with oversized discs.
I have noticed when using clone to back up game disks with no protection many wont work ?? ie splinter cell disk 1+2,command and conquer (cant remember which is the un-protected disk) and others. I have no probs backing up disks with the different protections using clone its when there is no protection present i run into probs when using clone. This is why i use clone/clonny for protected disks and nero for unprotected ones. I know this is very strange and should in fact be the other way round buts its just as i said, unprotected games seem to give clone probs  (I even found myself thinking that it was an oversight by the developers of clone :p ). Has anyone else found similar problems with clone not making a working copy of UN-PROTECTED games?

i copied the game to hd using iso buster then converted it to a tao image and burnt it with alchohol 120%. not one to one but no oversized filez and no problems burning. iso will catch read errors and i ignored them. would that b the cd protection or could it b its ignoring the oversized files that nova uses?

So, it does use Securom? That's weird, I have never been able to get such protected discs to run on my Samsung DVD-Rom, even though it took a few moments for the installer to launch I had no problem installing the game...

Haven't tried making a back-up of it though... ;)
