View Full Version : Question about the Ace Key
If i dont solder the one wire, will it still work the same as the regular no solder mod ?
Yes, without the wire it's equivalent to a "v5+v6 PnP Key Plus".

If its a USB mod it requires the soldering of 1 wire.

Its not a usb mod, its a pnp mod.Installation is exactly the same as the v5 and v6 no solder mods except 1 wire can be soldered to the base of the motherboard which allows you to boot 80min rips.
As long as the R-mod, tray eject swap works it should boot backups.

BEWARE: Statements about the Ace Key's ability to direct boot 80min CDR media seem to be misleading (at best that's a PAL console feature, plus try to find confirmation anywhere that 80min rips work with it)!
The other potential benefit of the wired Ace Key (compared to its unwired state) is direct PSX boots. However, reports indicate that hasn't worked for some either.

It doesnt direct boot 80mins, you need to swap, although i dont know anybody who has the chip.I have a Pal v5 Ps2.
Thanks for the info.
Btw, does anybody know a trustworthy mail order company in the UK or Ireland who sell the Ace Key ?.
I know this has been said before, but I cannot stress strongly enough how foolish buying PnP or USB mods is.
If you're already opening up the case, at least get something halfway decent, people. You're paying $30 for a PnP mod, why not pay a little LESS and get an Apple?
C'mon.

my answer to that is and allways will be NO.Nobody in my town will install the messiah or any other variants of it (Magic/Apple etc), the one guy who can tried it once and although he did get it to work, it was such a headache for him he resfuses to install the messiah anymore.Plus seeing as my last Ps2 died partially from an Origa install gone wrong im not about to take anymore risks by sending it somewhere else to be chipped. This is my SECOND Ps2(v5,Pal), and im gonna mod it myself but i dont have the skill to install a no swap mod so Ace Key it is.
Why not send it to Bill at freedomlives.com. He guarnatees all his work. If he were to somehow screw up your ps2 he will buy you a new one. What more can you ask for? I have never heard a single complaint about Bill, and tons of people have used him including myself.

Im not sending my Ps2 anywhere, let alone America, just to get chipped.
Where you located? I thought you were in the US for some reason.
