I have been offered a version 5 PS2 modded with a messiah 1 chip. Is there any reason I would want the messiah 2 over the messiah 1 on the version 5 console?

I guess this would just depend on price.....

The only advantage that I have found with the Messiah 2 over the Original Messiah is the ability to turn off the Messiah 2.....

I have BOTH chips...... They both boot everything I have perfectly...

When would I want to turn of the chip? Thanks.

There are some "anti-mod" games that are out..... (PS1 games... But could be PS2 games in the future).....

These games WILL NOT play if a mod chip is detected.... Thus you can turn the chip off to play the original game....

Are there ways round this using the Messiah 1 chip? patches for the games etc?

They have patches for PS1 games but this problem hasn't come up yet with PS2 games, so there is nothing yet. I would imagine they would have patches as well.

Any idea how hard it would be to change the messiah 1 to a messiah 2 chip if i needed to in the future?

Installing a mod is very difficult, unless you are very experienced at soldering extremely small points.

At present there really is no particular advantage or disadvantage oneither, in fact I have found that with some home brew aplications, for instance emulators for the PS2, the messiah 1 is better at booting them than messiah 2 and also the messiah 1 isn't too fussy about booting discs burned in mode 1 where as the messiah 2 seems to be picky on the mode 2/xa format that PS2's work from.

The simple answer is if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Until u come across a problem with the messiah 1 don't worry too much about changing it.

If u do come across a problem then the chances r that alot of other people will come across it and a patch will be made.

Regards.............

Theres no way of turning off the Messiah 1? What if you were to put a switch in between the power line? Turn off the power, you turn off the chip…

Yes, you could do that.
