Im trying to make a back up of a pal game so that i can play it in ntsc format. my ps2 wont play the original as it is in pal mode. i need it in ntsc. can anyone help me?
You need a pal to ntsc patch for your particular game. Look at the patch sites here (http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/patches.htm) to see if you can find the patch you need. Then use the patching tutorial on that same page.

I have fixed all my pal---------> Ntsc conversion problems with a little program that seems to work flawlessly. You can get the program here. (http://www.adr-uk.com/site/download.php?op=getit&lid=178) I have successfully converted 2 games so far. Please let me know if this works for you and just ask if you have any questions.

I seem to be having the same Pal 2 Ntsc problems. I'm not really sure how to do it. I've read the guides, and I think I've figured it out.
First I have to backup my game on my computer HD, right? I did that using CDRWIN, but according to the guide I was supposed to use the "extract sectors" button. Is that right? Also, once I have made the backup, is that when I run this program you've provided. Could you please help walk me through how to make a NTSc version of a PAL game I bought in the UK, and now found out doesn't work in US
I even had a magic 3 chip installed, but all I get now is the B+W scrolling pic.
Help would be much appreciated!

What version of cdrwin do you have and is the original cd based or dvd?

Sorry I just read on a different thread that you have the same version I do. That will make it easier. When you create the image click the third box from the right on the top row (extract disc/tracks/sectors) Then at the top make sure it says extract to disc/cuesheet.
Now you need to patch the .bin file with the program I suggested. After you extract the file double click the adr check program first. This will make sure that there are all the nessarry files to make the program work. Then double click the adr patcher exe. In the patch menu select .ps2 Pal--->ntsc patch routine (no Y pos) Then choose browse and find your .bin file you just created. After that hit begin search. After it's done it should say that it found one patch and hit okay to continue. After this is complete all you need is to burn it back to a cd with either cdrwin or nero. Hope this helps.

Ok, I've kind of made some progress. I made a backup of one my ORIGINAL NTSC CD-rom games (midnight club) using CDR-Win, and then burned it onto a Fujifilm Cd-R. guess what? It STILL doesn't run on my PS2!!!
So I guess the problem isn't really conversion to NTSC. It's that my backups are not "backing up" correctly. Is there some sort of a "trick" to booting up backups with a magic 3.1 on V4 PS2? If not, then please tell me if I'm doing something wrong with my back-up. Should I try cloneCD instead of CDR-win? How about if I change the CD-R I'm using. Fujifilm is a pretty good brand.
Here's exactly what I'm doing:
Open CDR-win 3.9c
Extract sector button (3rd button to the right)
Make sure extract cue button is selected.
Uncheck "RAW" button
Pick a name for the image
Click on extract -- it goes successfully
Put in a blank Cd-R
Record button (first button)
Load Cues (somefile.cue)
Record (RAW button is unchecked) - it goes successfully
Place Cd-R in Ps2
Push standy button (one tap only)
It goes straight to browser/config screen
Select browser -- it says "reading disc, reading disc, reading disc"
"Disc read error"

Have you got any cdr backups to boot on your console? With cdrwin I read Raw and write raw also. I don't know if this will make a difference. Clone cd is a much better program than cdrwin. I would suggest using clone cd to back up your ntsc original and see if that works.
Your boot procedure for the magic 3.1 appears correct according to the sticky on the top of the forum. Make sure you put the disc in, hold down reset to engage standby. And then on single tap on the reset button....

It works! The conversion results in the screen being a little to the right and down (instead of centered), but entirely playable! Now I'll be able to enjoy all my legally purchased import games (PAL or not)!
:p
Next step; backing up my DVD games (though I probably need a DVD burner drive instead of my TDK CD-burner!)
Any thoughts on what a good, reliable DVD-burning drive would be?

I glad to hear that the conversion worked for you. I would suggest either the pioneer A04 or the A05. I have the pioneer 104 and I burn at 1x. This doesn't bother me but the A05 I believe burns at 4x. The 4x media is more expensive though. You can also get a off brand such as a cendyne or something. They are cheaper and essentially the same drive.
I also had centering problems with my pal to ntsc conversion. However like you said it is playable so I don't complain too much! :)

No I actually don't. I'm out of my last batch of DVD-rs so maybe I could get some 2x media. My old media worked great, I just could only burn at 1x. It was fairly inexpensive too. Any suggestions before I go DVD-R shopping??
Get some Ritek. If you aren't using firmware 1.31 with your 104, switch to it. This allows you to burn 1x Ritek at 2x perfectly.

do u need to patch even if you have a m2 in ur ps2???
To play a region game that corresponds with your ps2, no. You do have to patch if you want to play a pal game on your ntsc ps2 or vice versa.

But it works with an import game..... right????
My friend just chipped his ps2 because he wanted to play in the right speed(mainly fighting games)
He has magic 3.5 or somthing and he is able to play it
why is that????
(he has american console and plays jap and eur games)
Does anyone know how you can see if a game is pal or ntsc?? I got a rip from a game but i have some problems with it how can i check if its pal or ntsc ?
thanks

You should know if u have the original;) ;)
yeah well i dont have the original :/ I'd still like to know if anybody knows how to check it :)
I would close this thread if I had the power to, but I don't. Once a mod sees this, it will be closed. It is illegal to have a backup of a game if you don't own the original.
