My apple modded v7 doesn't seem to boot Xenosaga ( ORIGINAL )
WTF?!
Any ideas????
Well, it finally booted ( after about TWENTY ****IGN TIMES! )
What gives? Why does it hate Xenosaga?
It worked fine for Charlie in his review of the apple chip. Are you using an import or the US version?
TheMasterRat
26-02-2003, 13:46
It's the US version bighap
Hmmm, I might have to go rent this game to try it out with my apple.

is xeno saga out in the U.S. alrdy and can it be copied on 2 a
dvd-r
Yeah its out but from what I have read it is a dvd9 so it isnt burnable yet. Can you confirm this TheMasterRat?

Fitting it on to 1 DVD-R isn't possible. But splitting it onto 2 DVD-R's, now there's the right direction.
Someone will need to figure that one out, though. My guess is, someone is already trying.
I know BG tried everything to backup the Pal version of Xenosaga, but had no luck. Someone will find a way eventually.

Yeah.
If release groups like Kalisto can rip DVD games down to CD-R's, then there is no reason why a DVD9 can't be split is 2.
The great thing about DVD9... It's never bigger than 2 DVD-R's.
The problem isn't the size. It's the fact that there are dummy files and the game is only recognized as having one layer by Windows, or something to this effect. Maybe BG can add a little to this on his findings....

Sorry for not replying guys. yes, the game is DVD9.
Yes, it was released in the US on 2/26/02.
RecordNow Max shows the following information :

DAMNIT!
It's doing it ( or not doing it as the case is ) AGAIN!
The thing won't boot. WHAT GIVES?!
ldfjkl;asdjkl;fadsjlk;fajsdkl
Frustration. Don't mind me.
Charlie, if you read this thread, would you mind posting EXACTLY how you were successful in booting this game? Because I've tried everything so far.
The PS2 works great for everything else. Plays all backups and originals.
WHAT JACKASS AT MONOLITH DECIDED TO PUBLISH DVD9 WHICHC THE PS2 HAS PROBLEMS READING TO BEGIN WITH!?
GAH!
Charlie's test was with the pal version of the game. Maybe things are different with the ntsc version. If you have a gameshark, you might want to try booting behind that to see if you have any better luck.

would the xeno saga fit on to this dvd Optodisc DVD-RAM 9.4GB or is a ram dirve different from a dvd burner and 2nd ? i seen a 2 sided dvd disk holds 9.4 would that be good to copie games on like put gta3 on 1 side vice city on the other have 2 games in 1 :)
The Optodisc 9.4gb dvds are just double sided dvds as well, so it is basically 2 discs and the game would still need to be split somewhere. Yes you can use double sided dvd media to put a different game on each side but be prepared to pay more for these types of discs. The disc is more likely to be damaged as well because you don't have a protected side.

yes i swore i seen a 9.4 gig dvd on ebay only one sided may just been worng pic for the picture and i also heard on tect tv of a 25 gig dvd but i dont know how they work or what to burn them with

Celebrate first post with me! :D
Look on goggle for 9.4 disks and you will find a lot of different brands... The cheaper I saw 'em was for like 6 for a disk.
100 packages sell for like $350 - $400!!
Why DMC2 is 2 dvd5 and Xenosaga 1 dvd9? An explanation would be apreciated...
I heard somewhere that Cendyne DVD-r drives (Pioneer) is possible to flash the drive BIOS and make it compatible with dvd9 copying. Can this be true?
This is because I have a friend that flashed his cd-r drive and upgraded the burning speed. This means that burning speed lies on programing rather than the architecture of the drive.
So, If dvd9 burning consists of programing rather than drive physical architecture, you could flash the bios and upgrade from normal dvd-r drive to dvd9-r drive...
Just a nOOb wondering ;)

be assured u can not burn 9.4gb on a one sided dvdr ,
only way at the moment is a hksilver, pressed not burnt
Ob-Shaky
27-02-2003, 15:34
Two sided dvd-r (4.9 each side) I think is a pretty unsecure way to burn games because then you would need extra care with the discs. And if you are like me that store the games in regular cd wallets (have you seen the dvd-only cd wallets? OMFG lol! just stupid ppl fall for that) they eventually will get scratched on the side facing up.
So if you use those type of discs just to say "I have GTA3 and VC on one disc!" its pretty lame and cheap because my VC is original and it haves some mild scratchs on it and the game frezzes displaying the "error reding GTAVC disc..." thing...
Just get two good dvdrs discs and forget the worries... So what Im gonna do is to burn the VC game on a scratch-free dvd-r
Burn 9.4 on 4.7 obviously cant be done but my point was that there are several brands on 9.4 discs avaiable. just use on a search engine keyword: 9.4 dvd-r and Viola! expensive media and expensive drives w/burning speeds of 1x...
Joy. :o
9.4 gb media has been around for a while now. I would like to see these 9 gig dvd drives you are talking about, cause they don't exist.
Ob-Shaky
27-02-2003, 15:50
If they dont exist... Then explain the avaiability of 9.4 media dragon dude :o
9.4 media is DOUBLE SIDED (nothing more than a dvd5 on each side)
A true dvd9 holds 9.4 gb on ONE side......
I couldn't have said it better myself BG.:)

I could have.
Not really.

yeah.. he is right...
there is no 9.4GB DVD-R on ONE side ... the use dual layer...
those are 9.4GB DVD-RAM or Double Side.... Take a search on Google? yes... i did... but all those are not DVD9.

So anyone got any ideas? Or should I just have my PS2 re-chipped w/Messiah 2 Pro?
TheMasterRat, I will hopefully be able to get my hands on Xenosaga next week. I can report back to you how my Apple handles it if you like. If it's a no go, then that would be the first unsuccessful game I have run across for the Apple.
TheMasterRat
28-02-2003, 12:19
Well, it does boot. When it feels like it.
About a 1 in 12 chance. if not higher. *shrug*
Just annoying to have to keep hitting reset reset reset!

Movies use codecs to pack the data. They can be modified and still read at a smaller ( lesser quality ) size.
An example of doing that to regular data would be zipping it up.
Last I checked PS2 can't unrar/zip things ;)
Nice thought though.

There is now a kalisto rip to put it on one dvd-r. But as of yet I haven't found anywhere to download the kalisto file.

Be one hell of a file to download:(
I have had the same problem with xenosaga on my PS2. From what I have read from one of the sticky's is that the problem is the reflectivity. Reflectivity of DVD-r is between 45%-65%. DVD has a reflectivity of 40%-45%. It seems to boot on my V7 about 1 out of 10 times.

Nope.. Screw that. Why download a rip for a game I own?
Has any Messiah 2 user tried the US version of Xenosaga?
I had to do a laser adjustment on my brothers PS2 with messiah 2. I had just recaived xenosaga that day. after the adjustment it booted and played perfect.

Yep.... US Xenosaga plays perfect on the M2.... Also, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (JAP), & Gran Turismo Concept 2002 Tokyo-Geneva plays perfectly also.... ALL are DVD-9 games..... :)
Do you think that it can be fixed by updating the PS2 DVD Drivers?
Mine is 1.30U. I didn't try out this DVD9 games but I tried to play the DVD Movie (Utimate Jordan DVD-9 over 8GB of data) and the chances to play this disc is 1/10.
DVD The PlayStation 2-Xbox DVD Compatibility List (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/315957p1.html)
on this page, they said that the dvd remote has the latest DVD driver for PS2.
Does anyone knokw wheve to download "this" latest driver on the web? Maybe this drivers can fix the DVD9 Game problem
WDR
I think the remote only upgrades you to 1.20, unless this has been changed in newer releases of it. I don't think upgrading will help anyways because TheMasterRat has a v7 which has the newest dvd drivers and is still having problems.
the updated version is 2.10.... as the webpage said...
my ps2 is chipped with M2 i think... and i have problem with dvd9... damn...
1.20, 2.10...same difference.:p You think you have a Messiah 2? Why don't you open it up and have a look? What version ps2 do you have out of curiousity?
If u check out the sony official web site it states that the only thing the updated dvd drivers do to your console is make it compatible with the sony DVD Remote for the PS2, but then they would say that wouldn't they!!
Latest upgradable version is 2.10E with remote control which is the firmware in a version 5. Version 7 uses 2.13.
That list of dvd's compatible with PS2 is complete BS.
At least 30% of those mentioned with problems play on both of mine with no problems at all.
Regards.......

My PS2 version is SCP 30001.. is it V4 ps2?? how to I know which "V" is it?
Also... i made a post on gamefaqs and some ppl reply me some useful information.

I can read all the DVD9 movie by press the reset buttom two times when it is in standby mode. HEY! THEMASTERAT!! try this method and tell me does this work on this DVD9 game please
WLJ!O!
It could be a v1-v4. If its got 8 screws on the bottom then it's a v4. If it has 10 screws then it's a v1-v3. Look here (http://www.freedomlives.com/ps2_version_identification.htm) to see what you got.

Time to change the signature and help ppl decide chip when seaching forums:
Magic3crap , magic3v7 , magic3.1 , magicred , magicblue. ok.
Magic 3.1 IS garbage...
It has a hard time reading dvd-rs, cdrs, even originals.
I bought Xenogears original since I have the first one original and it was such a good title blah blah blah but this motherfunking chip just boot the danm thing 1/10. Im so pissed off...
I have like 65 - 70 PS2 games and while some titles boot 1/1, most of them rely on multiple reset presses and turning STANDBY the console. Even some of them DONT BOOT AT ALL! This is the case of Contra: Shattered Soldier, The Sims, .hack: Infection (DVD-r) to name just a few. Not to mention dvd movies that need reset 1/3. Maybe I'm booting them incorrectly so a guide to boot games for magic 3.1 would be greatly appreciated.
So what I plan to do is to get the console chipped with a magic 2 v7 again(the first I had but sold it). But I dunno if that magic2 v7 plays dvd9 games original or backup... so ppl a brother is asking help here.
*In another curious note my bro chipped his ps2 v7 with a magic 3.1 (just like mine but his ps2 is newer) but his console just boot EVERY GAME like 1/10. Both chips were chipped in front of me by the same person with the points cheked multiple times for error and stuff but it just dont function properly. Word is that chips bought in gamegizmo (http://www.gamegizmo.com) come with defects and they dont work correctly (unless they sell clones for originals witch I couldnt tell the difference :( )
So this is it.

Sorry for my dissapearance in this thread guys.
I think I have found a work around.
Similar to other chips, the Apple seems to dis-engage it self if you hold the power for about 6-7 seconds on startup ( Longer than you would if you were booting a PS1 game )
It may just be luck, but it has booted 1/1 everytime I do this and the PS2 logo screen is not in gravure.
Give it a shot apple-owners.

That is simply amazing! I tried turning my apple chip off and it worked. I had some official playstation 2 magazine demo discs that stopped booting on my apple console and after I shut off the chip it worked.
Sweet! Now if I could only get my hands on a copy of Xenosaga to try iy out. If this works I will love my apple even more. :)

But I still need to know if Magic2 v7 runs DVD9 games original or bkp...
How much is Mesiah 2 PRO right now? I heard it was like $100
Your Xenosaga problem is normal with the magic 2. If you boot it behind a GS2 or AR2 it will boot everytime. Messiah 2 Pro is only $58 from charlie_ps2 or dust2dust.
I have been waiting to change the chip in Mmy PS2. I might be going with something like dust's 37 pin install. I been waiting on a dms3 for a while but was dicked around by a copany for about 2two and a half weeks. I already ahve several messiahs that I ordered from charlie that I might have to throw in for now, but want to minumize the number of times I have to open my PS2.
Is there any dia. of the 37 pin install incase i want to install my messiah 2 that way?
These are the best pics I know of.
