Okay, what I'd like is the following. I'm looking for a no-solder mod-chip, preferably external. don't care about dvd backups, just cd-rs. I don't mind swapping but i don't wanna have to buy a Gameshark or anything in addition to the chip. In short, something like the goldfinger/pro action replay for psx. Is there anything like this out there?
If you want a no solder, you need to buy a boot disc such as a gameshark/action replay or swap magic discs(crap)

Just a pro action replay or gameshark is enough to let you play cd-r backups of ps2 games? I thought they were only good for ps1 backups.
Yes, PS2 versions of them though, with the chip as well.

Not sure I get you, so I'll ask you to spell it out for me :)
Can you play CD-R backups of PS2 games with just a gameshark?
No you can not. You need a Gameshark 2 PLUS a no solder mod chip.

Yeah but it also kills your laser like all Neo chips do.
