Here is the game test result for the DMS3 v1.1 tested on NTSC-J v8 model: SCPH-39006 BIOS 090 GH-022.

Please note that the update disk had to be created using specially padded files supplied by Divineo (who were very helpful). I used CDRWin to burn special cue/bin files and the upgrade worked. The upgrade cured Region Free problems.

The DMS3 v1.1 performs broadly like Magic 3.1 on PS2 games. It does not perform to the standards of Messiah 2. No DVD-R would boot and nor would some rips that wouldn't boot on Magic 3.x but did on Messiah 2. DVD9 and DVD9 backup were fine. Region Free worked fine. This unit also plays PAL movies OK (because HK is a PAL region). MM16 support was fine.

The Controller modes appeared to work. Sleep mode also worked. I held EJECT till the blue light came on and after inserting a CD-R game (and later a DVD Import) and pressing EJECT again, it Red Screened as expected.

The Controller Modes needed the respective buttons to be pressed for 4 or 5 seconds from pressing RESET.

My overall impression of DMS3 v1.1 on the v8 PS2 was one of disappointment principally for two reasons:
DVD-R did not work on v8 although the DMS3 site implies support (as at 21-Feb-03)
Some DVD rips on CD did not work; these work on Messiah 2 on the same PS2

Hia m8 im only replying to this thread charlie as it may be helpful , i am yet to try this as the info ive had is from a good source but was a little unclear ive been told that by fitting a cap to one of the power supply conections on the magic series chips it fixes the games that woulnd't boot ie the ones i sent you woody woodpecker ect and as i told you my m8 has around 45 or so.
Now with you saying the same titles are not booting with the dm3 im wondering if a simular cap fitting may solve the problem i'll find out more details the 1uf ect and post my findings
regards
;)

The DMS3 is a much hyped new chip that costs nearly twice as much as the Messiah 2. It currently behaves much like the Magic 3.1. Draw your own conclusions. But remember, I'm biased!

You did a great service to the PS2 community sending me those rips as they now feature in all my reviews.

Now I suppose what you say is possible - a capacitor would smooth out noise that might find its way into the business signals. In that case it wouldn't be the boot srategy but good old electronics that the magic 3 and the DMS3 people have not adequately attendd to.

So please do it and post your findings. You might yet be the hero of the day.

this is from their web page:

All faulty chips will be replaced. Please contact your reseller or distributor.

It's also come to our attention that the asian v8 console does not work with DMS3 and DVD-R. We've tested DMS3 on other "v8" consoles and found it to work correctly. The problem here is that there has been a lot of mis-identification of what consoles are truly "v8". It's now apparent that the only real "v8" is limited to the 39006 asia and that DVD-R games do not work. We'll get this problem cleared up as soon as possible. In regards to DVD games which have been "ripped" to CDR, we can only say that we have tested a large number of "rips" and have experienced problems with only one. We're tracking down the cause and if it turns out to be a bug in the DMS3 code, will release an upgrade to clear up the issue.

hmm cant believe i never posted this here sorry

dms3 can anyone help
the reason for posting this here is we have a problem,we been in contact with dms3 team through guichi a few times now and basically being told they have tested it ,hmmm but mine aint working.being part of a respected supply/install team, asking for advice and not shouting our mouths we expected a little better support

v7 pal 37 pin

v6(could be v5 but numbers are warn and im looking through glue, full bios can be got if needed) 37 pin socket

both machine pins layout are the same, both machines tested with numerous non swap chips, all work ( i,m sure with some thought u can work out wires are all fully tested)

dms3 was pluged into v7 all went well flashed it

dms3 was pluged in v5/v6as soon as u switch on ps2 it black screens,no browser or nothing.only way to get the ps2 to work as normal is to turn it on holding eject( turn off mod chip),then ps2 acts as if no chip is installed,i tried same flash disk agan obviously no joy rsod as chip was turned off

this is same fault as they mention on there site, but it works fine in the v7 so faulty chip no i have np flashing it ,if they got the correct flash (hmm i thought thats what i already done

retested v7 with dms3 still working fine
v5/v6 still working fine with all other chips

anyone had similar problems?,tryed swapping chip from 1 mc to another?

anyone got any ideas

anyone want to check my install norwich ,although i think other chips booting proves wiring is good.all points are covered with numerous other chips except c eject but i treble checked it and verified it good connection as its used to disable the dms3,only way i can get the v5 not to black screen

check out all the amazing support i got ,still not working
http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7669

llo thread keeps slipping down list i keep pushing it up ,but still silence

two possible reason i can see
1 there chip dont work on v6 (seen similar report to mine v5 and v7 ok but v4 not work

2 37 pin socket causes the wires to be much longer, maybe there mod has problems with long wires, long wires fitted laid properly should be fine,as proven with all other modchips working fine
