Sony DW-u10a

Can anyone tell me the difference between the sont 500a and the dw-u10a?

I know the 10a is the oem version, but it shows a different firmware version to the 500a. So I find it hard to beleive they are the same drives with different packaging.

There seems a lot of speculation, without any common answers.

I believe you stated the only differences. The dw-u10a is an OEM and has different firmware. Have a read here (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/19862)

As far as I can see Sony will not support the DW-U10A with any firmware upgrades.

So to get round this I've downloaded a patched firmware that converts the drive to a DRU-500A F/W d.

You just then re-flash the firmware to the latest version g.

My Sony "DRU-500A" works great.

Not sure how this affects your warranty but I personally have taken a chance on that issue.
