Devil May Cry 2 and Magic 3.1 problem.... plz help

I just burned Devil May Cry 2 (2Cds). Well I burned CD1 and when I try it with my Magic 3.1 it boots no problem however the intro movie freezes. Pressing start allows me to play the game though.

I haven't burned CD2 yet so I don't know if it will do the same. I'm using Verbatim 2X DVD-R media.

Now Shinobi works perfect. Movie plays fine. Does Devil may Cry 2 detect the modchip?

Also isn't the Magic 3.1 supose to turn itself off after a little while?

I can leave the game running for a long time and still the movie will freeze always.

Also I heard that by pressing and holding reset for 4 seconds when booting the game will turn the chip off after booting. Can anyone confirm this?

Wouldn't that just make the chip boot PS1 games?

Also holding the reset button too long just causes the game not to be detected. Or to be detected as a backup and not a original game.

PS1 games boot and play fine 100% of the time it seems
CD-R PS2 backups seem to play almost 100% of the time. I think it depends on media type. Using Memorex I got a game that froze. Using other cheap ass media worked perfect for Gradius III & IV.

I burned Vice City which was 3 files, .gi, (11).gi, and (12).gi and the game was not even recognized. It just did not boot mmm.

So to resume this. Which games have the most problems with the Magic 3.1 and is there a workarround?

Can the Magic 3.1 actually turn itself off?

magic 3.1 does have a sleep mode, but i dont know how it works, i got lucky and sold my magic 3.5 for 50 bucks, and bought a messiah2 for 58, mabye u can try the same

Devil May Cry 2 "may" be like Vice City and Kigdom Hearts..... They just won't boot on certain Magic 3's and then some boot and freeze.....

I can't test to find out if this is the problem since I don't have a Magic 3 or 3.1......

The DVD-R's of Devil May Cry 2

2 discs: Dante Disc 1 = 4.37 gb
Lucia Disc 1 = 4.37 gb

Both of these discs boots and plays perfectly on the Messiah and my Messiah 2.....

Also, the DVD-Rip of Devil May Cry 2

4 discs: Dante Disc 1 =701 mb
Dante Disc 2 =700 mb
Lucia Disc 1 = 701 mb
Lucia Disc 2 = 700 mb

All of these disc boots and plays perfect on the Messiah and Messiah 2....

You may be able to install a "switch" That was a cure for the Magic 3.... May work on the 3.1 also.....

Maybe Hull_Chipper can give you some more info.... (He does alot with the Magic line of chips)

Well just tried Cd2 and the movie freezes as well. The game plays fine..

I also tried burning it on a Verbatim DVD-RW and with different software at 1x and it does the exact same thing...

I will try to get a hold of different brand of DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs and see if that fixes the problem.

I might rent the game to see if the original does the same too. Then I'll know is the modchip for sure.

When I was looking for modchips all they had everywhere were Magic chips so I came to the conclusion they were the best. After I ordered it I found out about lots of problems concerning with these chips. I was hopping that the Magic 3.1 would give very little problem but looks like I might have a hard time with it.

Now about selling it and getting a Messiah 2 no can do. It cost me $80CAD to get the Magic modchip installed. No one wanted to do them. They say is pretty damn hard to install and the Messiah 2 is not any easier either.

Now I would not want to pay more to get it removed :(

I guess I will be playing my Xbox more than my PS2. I like the Xbox better anyways.

Are you100% sure you got the magic3.1 or is it possible somebody TOLD you it was 3.1 but actually gave you the magic3?

Not that this sort of scam is widespread (robbin gitz getting rid of old stock etc)

I bought a Magic 3.6 and gave it to the installer along with my PS2.

A Magic 3.6 = Magic 3.1+clip

I got a Magic 3.1 and I backed up DMC2 on Ritek DVD-R (G03), both disks play fine, intro and everything no freezes. I think you probably did get a 3.0 instead of a 3.1

I have the same problem on my (PAL) V4 Messiah. CD1 boots perfectly but hangs on the intro, i can press start to bring up the title screen and start the game as normal. CD2 works okay no hangs at all on the intro. Just seems to be a problem with the first disc for some reason.

This sounds more like a dirty laser problem.... My V5 with Messiah boots it perfectly and so does my V7 with Messiah 2....

When I got the chip it said Magic 3.6 in it and it sure did match the one on the picture... I got it from www.mod-chip.com

Now here in town I can only get Memorex and Verbatim DVD-Rs right now :(

So I can't really test the game on other media.

I Have a V7 PS2 and is only like 3 months old and barely used. I think the laser should be ok.

CD1 movie hangs at the start
CD2 movie hangs in the middle of the movie.

Now I think I will open the PS2 and see if the guy installed the modchip I gave him.

BEFORE you go and open it up...... Go rent the original and see if it does the same thing..... If it doesn't hang, then you can look other places....... If it does hang, then you either have a Magic 3.0 OR the new 3.1 has the same problems with some games as the Magic 3.0 had....

(Although, you should have the original if you have a backup :eek: )

Ok I tried GTA Vice City and Devil may Cry 2 Originals. Both work and I don't get any freezes. However Devil May cry took 2 itries. Seems like there has to be a good timing when pressing reset for the Magic 3.1. The second CD worked on the first try.

Then Vice City took 3 tries but seems to be working fine, no freezes or anything.

So I take it is the media I'm using that causes the freezing or the game not to work?

Are these games DV9?

Is Gran Turismo 3 DV9 too?

Gran Turismo 3 original took 3 tries to get it working. I'll have to try behind the gameshark. I believe I heard somewhere that the GS2 helps on the booting of DV9 games.

I ordered Princo Cds. I know from a friend they work great for Xbox. What about PS2? They are these

Vice City, DMC2, and Gran Turismo are all dvd5. Princo is ok. Some people have good luck with them, some don't or have better results with higher quality media.
