View Full Version : Protection ID info thread - v6.4.0 (build 08.07.2010)
for those of you having this crash - do you have unlocker installed?
i ask, because fp discovered if this program was running, the crash happened, i was also able to reproduce this (picking 12+ files seems to do it), it would appear that the program is using setwindowshook to set hooks, im not sure exactly what its doing, but somehow it interferes with pid, possibly it subclasses something, and destroys data pid uses..
for me, the problem is caused by this program, as if you uninstall it pid is perfectly fine, so i think we might have to contact the author about this (unless i can find a workaround - but that doesnt look so simple)..
if you are not using that program and still get the crash, i might need you to run some beta exe's for me :)
NOTE : this is not related to the running pid -> crash, its related to scanning files from the context menu...
Hi,
I was just wondering if there was a way to get the scan results on the command line (without any gui) ? Somethin' like --no-gui --scan A.exe
I'm testing unattended installations using a bunch of scripts under cygwin. Would be great as Pid is really fantastic to detect installers/packers.
Stéphane.
we plan to make a console version :), protection id 7 development has begun, there will be 2 gui's (one x32, one x64) and 2 consoles (again one x32 and one x64), and has some nice commandline options too
Just bought Company 0f Heroes - Opposing Fronts. When installed also installs Securom. Using Protection ID 6.5.3 on installation DVD does not pick up Securom, says [!] File appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection.

Are you sure you're scanning the right executable/DLL?
Thanks for the reply.
I told Protection ID to scan the entire dvd.

game files are usually compressed (mainly cab files due the use of install shield)
on disc to save some space. they´ll get decompressed during the installation.
try scanning the folder on your hdd were the game is installed in. simply drag & drop the folder into pid and check out the protection report window :)
afaik Company 0f Heroes - Opposing Fronts included a securom protected dll.
Thanks for the reply.
As you said, scanning the installed game file found the Securom.
I was hoping that ProtectionID could find Securom etc before installing the game,
so that I could know in advance if a game would install this.
it can sometimes, if you do a sector scan on the disk - it'll report securom 4/5/7 found etc (no exact version number), also it can scan inside msi install files (if you enable that in the configuration)...
so, i'd suggest you actually learn how to use the program before complaining :)
also securom is NOT installed to the system, the game exe is wrapped with securom, nothing else.. or did i misinterpret what you meant by "so that I could know in advance if a game would install this" ?

Hmm, some securom game installed a "Securom User Access Service (v7)" on my system.
I was not complaining, merely passing a comment.
'Install this' - for want of a better phrase. Before the game installed there
was no Securom on my system. After the game was installed Securom was on my
system, as undeletable folders and undeletable registry entries. What would be a
better term than Install ?
Cowsheep. Do I detect a slight note of sarcasm ? Apologies if not, but if so, how
does one know that the game is a 'securom game' before installation, by which
time it is of course too late.
I have no problems with securom being used (assuming that it does actually cut
down on piracy, which from what I have read on the Internet does not appear to happen to any great extent, and that it does not adversely affect my system).
What I object to is not being informed that it is to be 'installed', again for want of a better word, to my system.
hmm i see, and hear.. its a tricky one to define, and is probably discussed somewhere else in the forum ..
i think cowsheep was talking about a service from a very old securom game.. but its a valid point.. too..
but honestly, i've discussed this whole thing many times, and am a bit bored with it (hence my shortness)..
if you do a sector scan on the disk, it'll report if securom (and safedisc and tages and some others) is present on the disk (note that an activation version might not have a disk signature present, or one without a disk check.. i've seen that a few times.. its rare though).. but usually to detect protection you generally do a scan of the installation folder as its more reliable

ProtectionID 6.4.0 is unable to determine the compressor/encryptor used in the newest versions of UltraISO (http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/). You might want to look into it. (Unless it's already done in unreleased betas... :))

Just tried with beta on UltraISO 9.3.6.2750:
File Type : 32-Bit Exe (Subsystem : Win GUI / 2), Size : 1233408 (012D200h) Byte(s)
[x] Warning - FileAlignment seems wrong.. no solution calculated (using NULL)
[File Heuristics] -> Flag : 00000000000001001100000000100001 (0x0004C021)
[!] ASPack v2.12 compressed !
- Scan Took : 0.63 Second(s) [00000003Fh tick(s)]
Can we have a 2011 version about now? The releases are so wide apart it's rather strange.
in the spirit of another tool.. and game...
it will be out when its out...
and whats rather strange about it? we choose when to release, same as every other developer...
well duke is out so maybe it's time. you promised as much in your above post.
no i fucking didnt.. i said it will be out when its out, i did NOT link pid to duke at all...
don't put words in my mouth.. got it? and pissing me off is not going to make it come out any faster... its fucking free so stfu and be patient

I have the same problem as mentioned in Post 496 (http://www.fileforums.com/showpost.php?p=381175&postcount=496)
Protection ID crashes instantly after starting the program
but as far as i know there is no program called unlocker installed on my pc
in a winXP vm the tool seem to run fine, even the scan over network works
but a sector scan for example would be difficult, even if the drive is provided to the vm the access is not direct, or am i wrong?
maybe there is another reason
my OS: Win 7 Professional x64

Guessing you are on windows 7? if so then that issue was fixed and will be in the next beta (coming quuite soon..but if anyone posts a 'can i have it?' or similar post then that will delay things). Network / remote sector scan is possible through iScsi. / Mapping etc, never tried it though (iscsi definately should work..50/50 on mapping)
Hi all,
I am currently puting together a beta of pid for android. Currently it detect SlideLock, admob and airpush based apps (not strictly protection i know, but still nice to have i think).
If anyone wants to beta test it please pm me, also if anyone has info or apks with protection on them please send them too :-) (pm me with a link or something)..
Other plans are to allow pid droid to communicate with pid windows to do scans etc and report back to the droid.. This will be in a future pid version.definately not in the next release (coming very soon)
Please note that pid droid and normal are two seperate projects and will have two seperate beta teams, so being on pid droid beta doesnt guarantee pid beta access, but we are flexible :-)
Ideas, comments welcome..
Thanks for your time

hey jerk, the year is nearly over. how goes it?
yes, you're a childish jerk. just look at the rage and vitriol you posted above.
took me several months just to get the courage to reply again. you scared the brown shit out of me.
you really want to go down this path?
months to build a reply on the internet from fear....really?
seems you learned some new words...
now, before you reply...take a deep breath, collect your thoughts and perhaps think hard...really hard

I think this was a joke but I don't think it was a good one...
By the way, if you want to see software that is updated really rarely then see mine; sometimes it takes me not one year but several years to come up with a new major release. So, TippeX, you need to work on your release delays to overtake me. ;)
actually, its a bit more serious..cdkilller seems offline / uncontactable... last code commit from him was over 2 months ago and his activity on a lot of forums seems to have stopped too... i hope he is ok and i hope he touches base soon... its true there hasnt been a public release in a long time but there have been quite a few internal betas and tests... i might (time permitting) do a public beta in a few weeks, with the usual xmas final following after that the project will be on pause

I always get this error (Win 7 x64) what can I do?
you can wait for the next release (soon), that bug is fixed (and also reported previously), quite some time ago actually
The GetProductInfo-value PRODUCT_PROFESSIONAL isn't implemented and thus the function which joins the OS-string returns "<Unknown>". However, it's incorrectly passed via the ebx- instead of via the eax-register, leading to a memory access violation:
0041A7ED | B8 A2694700 | MOV EBX,protecti.004769A2 ; ASCII "<Unknown>"
Here's a fix:
its fixed already, same with win7 issues..
i also deleted your attachment as you have no rights to adjust the code or make a public distribution, so fuck you very much for that, if you want to help then pm me or email, what you did was plain shitty
haha, wtf is wrong with you?
As for the crash happening when starting your tool, your last response, stating it's already fixed 'n stuff, was 4 months ago.
And though, there still isn't a new version on your homepage which is why I figured it might be helpful if I post a quick fix so those experiencing the same crash, who are therefore unable to use your tool at all, could at least use the fixed version I posted temporarily until one comes out officially.
So fuck you very much.
my point is that you have no right to publically alter the code and release the 'fix' publically... you really think that was the right thing to do?.. as for release, cdkiller has not been online in a long time.. hence no releases, i mentioned this also
you want to help in release? then work with me, what you did was not on at all.. and you should know that...
the *correct* course of action would have been to contact with info on how to reproduce the issue and a fix.. not being a dick and posting an altered exe and thinking that was fine
I actually didn't think it'd upset you this much.
And why would I want to contact you? You already said it's all fixed 'n shit.
Though, there is no update yet. So I thought I might help if I post a temporary fix for those who can't use Protection ID atm.
well it seems you really dont understand...
you really think altering the exe and posting publically was the right thing to do?
i mentioned it was fixed AFTER you made your post... not before, so the point of taking the correct path (ie: contact) still stands
and then the point of were you think you get the right to make and ditribute the patch is also raised... are you on the beta team, or the coding team (i know you are not), or in the development... ? nope...
point made? if you want to help thats fine, doing what you did is not the way to go about it
k, I get it, you may lessen your rage now..
Though, you're wrong in the following point:
The small bug I'm talking about is the same one 5moufl was quoting whom you've answered that it was already fixed.
Telling him that and that he should wait for the next release isn't really helping, though, as he probably couldn't use ProtectionID for the last 4 months and still can't.
running in compatabibility mode solves it too...
trying to excuse your action just makes it worse... i offered you a chance to help, you didnt comment...
and now trying to justify it by making it out that it helps another user doesnt exactly help now does it... what you did was wrong.. just get the point and we can move on
as some of you are probably aware, cdkiller has disappeared and seems uncontactable, he emailed me once saying he would be in touch, but that was over a year ago :(...
so...
im trying to keep the project going, but now its really just a 'one man show' and i have a lot of real life stuff to deal with, so if anyone would like to help by giving files, detection info, code (asm preferred but i can port it if necessary), detection methods etc please contact me at the *new* email address -> protectionidteam at outlook.com (edited to avoid spammers), you should know how to piece it together :)
also, that means i have no information on the beta testers, so as a result i am opening that up again, simply contact me on the email saying what you can bring to the project (testing, code etc) and i'll respond as soon as i can
i plan to keep the project open as im sure thats what cdkiller would have wanted, hopefully he might see this (and/or some of the other things i did to reach out to him) and get in touch, but continue we must..
i've updated the code a lot, mostly on the build system, some code fixes and bugs fixed (including the windows 7 one), detections are at 540 at the moment and i plan to release a public beta very soon (maybe at the weekend if time permits), so if you want to beta test, or even help out, please do contact me
as some of you are probably aware, cdkiller has disappeared and seems uncontactable, he emailed me once saying he would be in touch, but that was over a year ago :(...
yeah, he's probably dead or in jail.
with disc based drm about dead, so is such a tool. anyway, it was dead years ago what with yearly or longer releases.

Your impertinent and demanding tone is astonishing, especially that this is a free software that some people develop in their spare time. I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve but the result will not be more frequent updates of this software.

lovely... just lovely..
really nice attitude there... so you want the tool updated but yet you have absolutely no respect for the authors....
how about you go fuck yourself?

yeah, he's probably dead or in jail.
with disc based drm about dead, so is such a tool. anyway, it was dead years ago what with yearly or longer releases.
lol... theres plenty of other protection out there that isnt just disk based
yearly or longer releases? seems pid is still being used, even with those updates and a new ver is coming soon... if you want more up to date releases then join the beta team .. very simple..
as for 'dead or in jail'... very simply - fuck you

Yeah fuck you, i hope cdkiller is good. He was always very friendly and seems very nice. I hope hes okay.
TippeX i wrote you a pm about testing and stuff. Hope to see a new Version soon. Im using the prog still very often and know a lot people who also do.
@AHRIMANSEFID's - i think this bug is fixed (theres been a lot of fixes and tweaks in the current beta) - can you please put the file somewhere for me to test against?
and thankyou very much for the report, its appreciated
@ShadowDuke - replied, and thanks, and yep i hope cdkiller is ok too, he always was friendly and helpful and the project was always a fun thing to do
@P2NENp - the information on how to join the beta team is on the main site, im not too hard to contact, although admittedly i dont really check this site that often recently
i do plan a new public release soon (probably october like the last one, with any fixes etc done for the 'proper' christmas release), if anyone does want to beta test, email me at the address on the pid.gamecopyworld.com site, all i ask is that you (1) dont leak, (2) supply the files that caused a crash or arent detected, (3) give some feedback / criticism / suggestions etc.. i dont think thats much to ask
oddly enough, regarding how many people use pid, i honestly dont know, the downloads arent counted (and they're not really a 'good' estimate of who's actually using it), and who knows, the new fixes / tweaks / improvements might get more people using it, i certaintly hope so
well version 6.6.6 (halloween 2014) is now public....
Amazing tool guys, I really love protectionID v.666 new functions.
glad you liked it myloch - guessing you mean the hashing and file version info functions etc?
version 6.6.7 coming soon, im adding more stuff to it atm and fixed 1 rare bug
I have some softdenchi protected games, but protectionID doesn't recognize it. Unsupported drm?

when scanning a pc game we suggest you to drag & drop the game folder into PID and then switch to the Protection Report (to be sure you scanned all files)? true?
to find your mirror site Eagle.
Is it the site in your profile?

Here's a direct link: https://web.archive.org/web/20180909104700/https://pid.wiretarget.com/?f=ProtectionId.690.December.2017.rar . (It downloads with the extension .zip but it's still a RAR archive!)

It's looks like the Protection Id development has ceased complelety..
Please help me analyse the results. (Tech info only!)*
*0x00000000 --> not copyable, ...01 --> once time, ...02 --> all?
Note: Funny bug from my new PC's LG DVD-Writer or/and old DVD-Recorder issue. Older time used older DVD-Writer from PC and any older different DVD-/+RW disc, burned any recordings, not protected. (Checked.) Rewriting old any recordings with newest blank DVD-RW dics, see the results. Funny! (Not flagged the recordings with any DRMs, and taken from ~25-30 years SECAM/PAL vhs tapes.) Recorders, not deleting these recordings after DVD-burning. The flagged DVD readable and copyable to PC. Rare bug??
