My ps2 is modded with a Messiah 2 mod chip. It will not play any psx 1 back up games or even the original games. Does this mean that there is something wrong with my ps2 mod chip install?? Please respond thanks.

Are you holding reset until the blue light comes on?

I am doing what i am supposed to do. Holding until the blue light comes on. I get a message of no data. Even though the psx backup works on my psx1 that i have modded. So i know that the disc is ok.

Ok... Try turning the Messiah 2 off and check to see if your original PS1 game will boot.....

If it does, then suspect the chip or the scex wire (I think thats the one...) Maybe Dust or Charlie can elaborate on this....

I would check to see if you have solid connections and no bridged points.

Hold the reset button until you see the electrons swirl on the screen.

Do ps2 cd based games boot, what about DVD movies?

When i turned off the chip the original psx game booted. The backup will not. To answer the other question i have one cd based game and its a backup and no that will not boot also.

Check the connection of the scex wire.... I beleive this is the one.. Charlie_PS2 or Dust2Dust will be able to confirm (or say I wrong :) ) this and be able to help you out more about the technical side of the install....

So you can't boot any type of cd-r based game (ps2 or ps1) with the chip on. If this is the case I would definitly check the connections, specially the bios chip connections and W. If all the connections seem fine, you might need to adjust the laser for cd-r games.

So let me get this straight, it plays DVD-R games and CD-R PS2 games (1:1 copies only), and it doesn’t play ps1 backups or ps2 rips.
For ps2 rips, are you remembering to patch them, because they are no longer on a DVD.
For ps1 backups, first answer me this do DVD movies play ok?

what it does is this. It plays all dvd-rom ripped games that I burned onto a cd-r. Those work fine. The ps2 will not play the playstation 1 games or the cdrom based ps2 games that i burned onto cd-rs. The playstation 1 backup games do work because I already own a psx1 that has a mod chip in it and they work. The only way my ps2 will play a psx original game ( real copy of the game not a backup) is if the mod chip is switched off. I get a screen that says no data when i put in a psx1 backup game. I follow all the directions and thats what i get. Also the ps2 will not play cd-rom based backup games. They were burnt by clone cd and if i put it in my cd-rom drive it look identical to the original ps2 game. So is that understandable or no??

That is so fu**in weird it plays rips, but not 1:1 cdr copies.
Can you boot dvd movies or dvd ps2 backups?
What version is your PS2?

It’s weird because if you get “no data” when a disk is inserted it’s because the disk is not being detected at all, however you said you have no problem booting rips. Usually you would get the “red screen” meaning the disk is detected just not as a ps2/1 game or dvd movie.

I would recheck all the solder points, make sure there are no bridging or cold solder joints.
If you are certain all you’re wiring is good and there are no bridges, I would guess you have a laser problem it might need cleaning or calibration.

i belive its the cd speed to read ps1 games has to be set on a dif speed from ps2 games but yet it plays ps2 rips on cdr yes but its reading as if it was a dvd just smaller so there for it wont need to read as fast as a ps1 game or rip i would try checking the speeds in ur opition first and work from there i have had a ps2 b4 that would only play dvd games no cd based games i had to send it to sony and they fixed it for me for free :)

I figured out on how to change the disc speed but when I use it how am i supposed to boot up a backup when you hit reset and it puts it back to default speed.???

im not sure i never used it b4 i sold a ps2 to a guy that had to change speeds to get his ps1 games to work on the ps2. I will mess around with it i have no mod chip yet so i will have to use original ps1 games. Have u tryed it with a ps1 reg game to see if thats the prob with the loading if it loads aftr u chnage speeds that means thats all it was if not must be somthing else wrong
