I have a magic 2 modchip fitted in my ps2, version 5, is there a way to back up ps2 dvd games straight to a dvd-r disc ?
I have a Pioneer a04, have tried backing up my son's GTA 3, but it will not boot up, r there patches to b applied or should the back up work straight from a 1 -1 copy ??
Many Thanx

Hi just wondering if n e body has backed up Grand Theft Auto - Vice City, have followed Sticky's tutorial, but when game has finished reading through Prassi, it says that it has read but with errors, the total size of the file is - 4,455.38mb, it is the second Original i have bought for my son because he lent the 1st 1 out to his mate who badly scratched the disc, which freezes when playing now, don't want to waste a 2nd copy, so is it possible to back up this game ?? Have backed up - The Thing through Sticky's tutorial with Prassi, and it works fine.
Many Thanx

1 to 1 copy is basically if the original game is on cd you copy it to cd-r.....
If the original game is on dvd you copy it to dvd-r.....
No ripping... Just a straight copy....

I have backed up this game with no problems.....
Very simple, just have Prassi create a .GI (global image) then burn....
Read the original at a very slow speed and then write the disc at 1X......
Works like a charm....

try cleaning disk with litle fairy liquid in water, rinse plain water let dry
if still got problems reading the disk i would say it has an error on it as long as u can read and copy other games
i had 1 game in past prassi read with errors tried nero it read it fine must be worth a try

Ok, i updated Prassi dvd with the px engine, have made a global image of GTA Vice city, when i open the record dialogue box in Prassi and go to the folder where i created the global image of game, there r 4 seperate folders in there, all GI files, wat have i done wrong please ???
Many Thanx
Max
That is normal. All but one of them should have (#) at the end of the file name. You burn the one WITHOUT the (#).

OK, looked in the folder where i saved the global image, there is not a file with "#" at the end of it, all i have in the g image folder is:
Vice(11).gi - 2.00gig
Vice(12).gi - 2.00gig
Vice(13).gi - 359mb
Vice.gi - 1.48kb
If it is possible for me to back up this game through Nero, could somebody please xplain which way to set Nero up to work.
Many Thanx

What Bighap means is that one of the gi's won't have a number after it. Out of the files that you have in your directory, use vice.gi.
Yes, you can use Nero to back up this game. I use both nero and primo DVD to back up dvd games. (I'll probably get somebody that asked me why) For the nero settings, all you do is make sure you choose your dvd recorder. Go to cd copy, in that window, change it from cd to DVD, select the drive you have the source dvd in and hit copy. That's it. Hope this helps.
Thanks orion. I thought (#) was specific enough. For some I guess not.

Another question for u, don't know if u can help me, had my son's ps2 modchipped, it plays all backups, won't play originals or dvd backups or originals, had a magic 2 fitted if that's of n e help.
Many Thanx
max
If it won't play Original DVD based games or backups of dvd based games, it sounds like the laser is on its way out....
You could try cleaning the laser with a cd cleaning disc (the ones with the little brushes on it) and see if that helps....

Already tried that 1, tried cleaning it with an original PS2 cleaning disc, won't even read the disc :(
Max
Um, sounds like wen they modded your PS2 they needed to recalibrate the laser and turned it up too much and now it is fried.
Could also be that ps2 has recieved a knock in transit. Small bump is enough to damage the dvd laser element.
Couple of questions:
What version of PS2 do you have?
Does it stil run cd/cdr based games?
md_mushroom

H, ps2 is version 5, asked mate who chipped it, he said that the laser wasn't re-calibrated in n e way, ps2 just taken apart, modified and put back, if there was a problem with the modifying, would the ps2 not boot up n e games at all, or is there a certain part of the chipping that could affect different cd/dvd media ?? Yes, cdr backups - Robot Wars and Crazy Taxi.
Many Thanx
max
Yeah. Sounds right. The version 5 shouldn't need any laser adjustment.
Okay, try these and tell me what does and doesn't boot:
PS1 original
PS1 back-up
PS2 CD Original
PS2 DVD Original
PS2 CDR Back-up
PS2 DVDR Back-up
DVD Video Original
DVDR video back-up.
