I'm trying to make a 1:1 backup copy of the US version of this game (CD format) with clonecd. I've used both of my writers to copy it with, but neither one will work using R-mod and Swap Magic on a V7 board. I've backed up to DVD-based games and those play fine. After the swap, the disc gets to the next screen where the wizard cards appear along the bottom of the screen from left to right as the game is loading (people that have seen this game should know what I'm talking about). It will get as far as the first wizard card and it stops. The original is in mint condition with no scratches or dirt (for now, I have a 5 year old, hence the need for backups). My burners are top notch, so I don't think that it's a compatibility issue with those. If there is anyone out there that has successfully made a backup of this particular game, please respond with the software you used, hardware used, if there are any patches needed, type of modchip, etc. Thanks.

I have backed this game up successfully

What settings are you using within CloneCD ?

http://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk/CloneCD_Tutorial.htm for v3.x settings

or use this profile for v4.x d/l from here (http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/apps/PSX LibCrypt.zip) (un-zip - copy to "profile" folder in CloneCD install directory)

Pioneer (Jap) recommends this utility to test compatability of media with 105 (and other) drives.

Nero CDSpeed2000

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html

Unzip the exe to a folder and run it. Load your media (blank or burned) and select your burner. Click "Extras" and "Disc Info" from the drop down menus and it will tell you lots of goodies about the media. If it is DVD media, it will tell you what speeds you can burn at. Since we're talking about CD-R, you should look at the manufacturer. Brand names are prefferred, some Princo's have been known to show problems.

I haven't tried this game yet, but I would imagine it is a pretty big game, so I hope you are reading and burning as slow as possible to ensure both an accurate read and accurate burn towards the end of the CD.

Good Luck!

Backed up fine using clone cd 2 and tested on ver7 no solder/swap magic 2 set up. Sounds like either you're writer don't support reading of sub channel data or you're settings in clone cd are wrong.

The game is protected as i remember first burn was done in (i think nero) and didn't work. Second in clone cd and was fine.

Thanks guys. My settings must have been wrong. I use CloneCD ver. 4.x so I will use the profile that was linked in this post. Sounds like I should not have any probs if I go that route. Is that profile good for ALL cd-based PS2 games?

Damnit, I'm THIS close to giving up on this. I've tried using 74 and 80 min cds, I've used clonecd with the profile that PSX_Paul provided, I've tried with both recorders (which should support reading of subchannel data), I've tried different speeds and different brands of media. All attempts have gotten me the same thing...one wizard card on the loading screen.

If anyone has ANY more ideas (other than "get a no-swap chip"), let me know. I don't think the no-solder/swap magic combo is the problem because I get beyond the point that those are supposed to get me to. Maybe it's just my machine? Anyone want to trade backup copies to see if mine works on your machine and yours works on mine? Will that get me in trouble here? Help!

I am using Clone CD 4, and the profile above.
I have a TEAC cd/writer and Sony DRU-500a.

Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets gets to 47% or 48% then seems to take for ever. Error log continues to report Failed to read sector xxxxxxx and has not crashed or locked.

I know this is how copy protected cd's usually copy but not usually this slow now 1hr 30 mins and still 48%.

HELP!

Check ur original for signs of damage! You will probably find it works fine with another game.

Use cd mage, you might have a few crc errors and cd mage will fix them, you need to rip the image back on your comp though.

Jay_83,

How do you patch the game & what patch do you use? You posted earlier that you played a backup fine with the same setup I have. I just want to know how you got it to work.

Yeh sorry mate, I misread the post. I've got the same set up, i have a program which automatically searches the image for ea protection and does its best to move it.

It is generic and def works with harry potter but not with simpsons skateboarding.

Send me a private message with your email address and i'l hook you up with it. Unless you manage to find it elsewhere cause i'm not around much at the mo.

Hope this helps,
James
