First of all i hope you can understandme since my english is pretty
bad.
Some dumbass installed the magic 3 chip in my ps2 and then he tested a dvd rip game and it worked fine but then he tried to test a dvd backup(gta:vicecity, wildarms 3) and they didn't work then he told me that the laser of my ps2 need to be recalibrated so it can read the dvd backups and told me to comeback the next day.
Well I go to his shop the next day and he told me that he couldn't make the dvd backups work and gave me back my ps2 telling me that the chip he installed wasn't the problem that the laser of my
ps2 was the one that doesn't work and refused to give me back my money.
But thats not the worst of it when I comeback home I tried to test my dvd rips(dinasty warriors 3)and others backups I have they won't work, every time I tried to load them the red screen showed then later I tried again and still nothing until I put the ps2 in standby mode with the backup inside and turn it on again and finally the game boot without problems I tried the other backups and they worked too but when I turn it off for a while and turn it on again it give me the same problems.
I think this dumbass messed with the pots of the laser and that's why my ps2 it's having a hard time reading the dvd rips that worked fine with other chip I have installed(the one you have to use a gameshark to boot the dvd rips).
Can you help me fix this thing? I really wan't to play dvd backups on my ps2,my ps2 serial is 30001 I think is version 4 right?

I would love to do so but the problem is that I don't live in the usa I live in mexico and I wasted all my money in this damn chip.
You can try to recalibrate your laser yourself then. Have a look here (http://www.ps2.nu/playstation-2-laser-calibration.htm)
I don't think its a laser calibration problem if u get the red screen.
If your laser needs recalibrating the ps2 will either
1. ignore the fact you have a disc in or
2. will come up with a read error message.
If you are getting a red screen you are either:
1. not using the correct booot method ( see top of this forum for boot methods ).
2. you are using a bad backup.
There is a simple way to do a basic test on your laser.
Get hold of a dvd video copied to dvdr. As the ps2 should play these without a mod chip try to boot it. If your laser ain't up to the job you will get one of the two replies above. If it plays okay then you know that your boooot method is wrong, your back-up doesn't work or the chip installation ain't working.
Let us know how you get on.
ps. I wouldn't suggest recalibrating yr laser without an oscilloscope and about 6 months of experience in doing it as it is very easy to fry your laser...

No luck Ottoman.:(
Okay I forgot to say that the first time he installed the chip(Magic 3) he tested a dvd backup movie(Almost Famous) and It worked fine but that was before he decided to mess with the pots of the laser.
Unfortunately I don't have a dvd backup movie to test It again and no money to buy one since I wasted all my money in buying the chip.
About the boot methods I tried everything with no luck:
-the dvd rips works after I try to boot them several times
-the dvd-r games backups don't work
-all my original games both dvd and cd work fine.
Now heres what had me worried sometimes when I put my ps2 in standby and turn It on again the screen where you can see the menu won't show the thing just freezes and the eject button don't work either. What I do is turn it off completely and then I just push the eject button and It starts working again.
Now the worst thing is that he refuses to give me back my money.

My advice:
1. pick up ur busted Ps2
2. walk or drive too were the person who modded it lives
3.ring his doorbell
4. ask him y he did wot he did and y he has broke ur PS2
5. when he gives u a Bulls*** answer smash the PS2 over His Head
6. walk into his house and take his PS2 and any other games consoles there
7. stand on his head on the way out
8. and smash his windows
9. then politly ask for ur money back
this advice was brought to u by a very drunk man sitting
in a pub he can not be held responsible for any police Charges
u may inccure actually carrying out his advice
p.s Have a good night playin on ur new console's

That was really helpful bl0kedownthepub...if anyone else feels the need to make fun of me go ahead. :(
The ONLY real option you have is to save up the money and send your PS2 to someone that KNOWS what they are doing....
You should have sent it to Bill @ Freedomlives.com in the first place, but that doesn't matter now.... (It would have cost you more money up front to have him do it, BUT you wouldn't be having the problems you are having now...)
Yeah, Difinitely sounds like a fried laser, fried one about two weeks ago so i know.
Well, you can get a new laser for about $45 and fit that or send it to someone and they'll fit a new laser and charge you some for fitting and set-up. Set up can be a bit dodgy depending on whether the guy that played with your ps2 adjusted angle and azimuth of laser but with the one I fried I dropped a new one in and it worked straight off first time.
The laser not reading dvdr is common with version 3 and 4 ps2's. The usual answer is to adjust ( VERY SLIGHTLY ) your laser intensity pot and then use very good quality dvdr media.
Sorry there is no free option. Either way u gonna have to invest more money. Gotta be worth complaining to guy to at least replace the laser he fried of yours.
Lots of Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let us know how u get on..................

We need a scammers section on the forum to warn others about tossers like this.
I personally would find a very undesirable drinking establishment and mention to all the pub that I need to drown my sorrows, cos my former best friend has just confessed to earning £500 weekly as a police informant!
Of course if you tell him first what ur planning, he may just do the honourable thing.
