My PS2 (SCPH-30003) was chipped about 10 months ago and I have been managed to play backups of the small number of PS2 CD games using action replay 2 (version 2.02).

I recently got a DVD-R/RW burner (Pioneer AV-05) and tried to make a DVD backup (World Rally Championship 2) using InstantCD/DVD v6.5 and branded media @ 1x. The burn process worked fine but I'm having trouble booting the disk. My main problem is I don't know what modchip I have, my installer said he didn't know?!

My PS2 CD backups work with the EA Boot Method (PS2 Backups)
for the Neo 2.2 (note: Normal Boot Method didn;t word), but the DVD one didn't. I'm still making my way through the list of boot up methods but was wondering whether anyone has had similar problems, or whether anyone had any idea what chip I might have.

Well scamper, managed to get it to work!

I tried the Nightstalker swap method last night but must have got my timing wrong. I tried it again this morning and used a watch to time the gaps. Worked like a dream!

For reference:

How to boot DVD-R (only) with AR2/GS2 V2x (
Nightstalker method)

Insert AR2/GS2
• Power down console, wait 5 sec, and restart console by pressing and holding reset. (Dont let go)
• After GS2 completely loads, swap with original dvd game.(high TOC)
• Wait about 15 sec and select Gameshark codes (or ar2 codes) and turn on or off any code on any game.
• Press start, select with codes and press x to load game.
• You will see a black screen saying "updating codes please wait" at this time release the reset button, tray will eject, swap with backup, tray closes and game loads.
