Have spent a while modding a mates PS2 with a messiah chip. The mod went okay but the PS2 laser didn't want to read DVDR's
I decided to do a blind recalibration of the laser. After two tiny increases on tht laser intensity pot it started reading DVDR movies and after a third miniscule increase it started to read dvdr games.
The only prob was that it would read standard games but with constant streaming games ( Time splitters 2,Max payne, GTAVice)it had problems. It either froze and defaulted to browser screen, loaded but had corrupt data or just went to browser screen and although it acknowledged it was a ps2 game it wouldn't boot it.
Decided to do one more increase and then it stopped reading any sort of dvd at all. Took it into work and got a scope on it. The dvd eye pattern is still there but trying to adjust it while running proved to be a problem so am still working on getting the ey pattern clean again.
So to the problem!!! The signal is only at about 400mV amplitude and aparently a typical new ps2 signal is at about 800mV.
Now i know that version 4 and lower have pretty bad lasers in them so has anyone else experienced this problem and is 400mV signal about right for a version 4 PS2???
