what version PS2 do you have? (need help? (http://www.psx-paul.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ps2versionreference.htm))

v5 and after your laser should have no problems (so I am told)
v4 and below your laser more than likely will not read them

If your burner will write a dvd+rw disc it will (or should) write a dvd+r.....

They do make a burner that will do 4 of the formats...(-R,-RW,+R,+RW) Sony DRU-500a....

The ONLY drive that will burn all 4 is the Sony DRU-500A......

The HP drives won't, the Pioneer drives won't......

ONLY THE SONY DRU-500A........

I've heard a few good things about the Toshiba.....

You may also want to check out the new Cendyne burner..... It is IDENTICAL to the Pioneer A05..... And they cost alot less....

 Please use periods. You are difficult to understand without them. Search ebay for the dvr-104. It is a great drive and dirt cheap now. Or you can buy it from jazztechnology (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/jazztechnology/piondv1xinei1.html) for $211.
