Charlie (regarding magic 2 & 3's not playing all)

Hi Charlie ive been away so i haven't been in touch did you get round to testing the backups i sent you on the magic chips . As i can now confirm 100% that the magic 2 & 3 MODS DO NOT PLAY ALL BACKUPS , ive been away on my hols ive came back to a number of installers emails stating this fact that they are having the same problems so it looks as though i was right in the first place the problem seems to lie with dvd rips not dvdrs and the titles that magic 2 will not play magic 3 won't either. As ive also said all along im not promoting any chip for financial gain the fact is if you buy a non swap mod it dosen't matter if its £15 OR £30 you expect it to do what it says boot all ps2 backups well im sorry to say but the magic series chips DON'T.
So at the end of the day the choice is up to the individual but i along with a few other installers i know will not be stocking any magic mods untill the problems sorted no matter how cheap they become ;)

I posted a reply some time ago. Anyway since then I've put the 37 pin rig on the PS2 and so can swap chips in seconds. here's the results:

GT3 Kalisto Rip

Magic 3 Red Screen
Apple Boots and plays
Messiah2 Boots and plays


Resident Evil Rip

Magic 3 Red Screen
Apple Boots and hangs at "3 months later"
Messiah2 Boots and hangs at "3 months later"


CONCLUSION

I believe that the GT3 issue is a boot timing issue. The Booting strategy for Magic 3 is based on a fixed cycle (so I understand) and when that has passed, it tries to boot anyway. Some games freeze (depending where in the cycle it is) others go RSoD.

If the media were perfect I believe it would be able to boot with Magic 3. I might try a copy onto "better" media.

The Resident Evil issue is, in my opinion a bad rip and probably the same problem on Magic 3 as GT3.

I have found something funny tho, i have several I have downloaded from the net and they WILL NOT work. Go and copy my orginal and it will load :) What the hell!?

Now i havent burned any DVD R's yet.. We'll see, but I say thats pretty shitty to say it will boot ALL and it wont boot maybe a 1/4.

I havent found a pattern to it yet, it doesnt matter if its OLD or NEW game, some will not load... I even tried using a gameshark to boot them, still no go :(

Ok guys can we do a trial here. I have a GT3 Kalisto rip which boots fine on the magic 2/3's I use. Can we exchange & see if the results remain the same.

I think there are many variables here and not only just the game in question, it has something to do with the media. I found that i load more from verbatim's than I do another type of disc?

Not meaning 'trade' but swap the same titles in order to see if we get difffering results. I also have a back-up of 7 blades (730mb) that boots fine with a no-solder mod!!!!

Craig im getting into this debate again i know of 3 or 4 installers that sell illegal games as well as chipping so these guys no their stuff , they all are telling me the same games don't boot all the games they have are downloaded from the net (group releases) .Where at the end of the day most pirate games come from , the gt3 rip you have may have been ripped by yourself or somebody else . Craig why you will not listen is beyond me maybe you are selling the magics and don't want them slagging off ?. Look mate these lads i know who sell the games sell 100's now what charlie is saying is wrong also as they have tried copying the one's that don't boot on better type's of media at even 1X and still NO BOOT ON MAGIC 2 OR 3 BUT ALL BOOT ON MESSIAH 1 & 2 . What im going to do craig to prove this to you is ill send you 10 or so backups (group releases that don't boot with the magic's and you can see for yourself pm me . I also don't think with the upmost respect charlie that what your saying is right as ive said the games have been tryed on all diff types of media and they will not boot full stop so maybe when craigs finished with them he can forward them on to you

As I pointed out m8, I have a GT3 rip from Kalisto, which works fine with magics, however Charlie has a GT3 rip from Kalisto which doesn't!

Without getting into a long drawn out debate (where we both look stupid) the reason I won't listen is cos, I'm getting different results!

Do you think I would continually buy a mod which doesn't work? Do you not think my customers would get upset & spread negative vibes about my work?

Its getting fun now dust er , Anyways im sorting something out with craig (hullchipper) for him to do some tests of his own but i thought peeps would be finding out that a lot of the ps2 group release's don't boot with the magics , But as craig said he has a kalisto rip that works but kalisto released a pal & us version and poss a final muti version so its hard to tell but as ive said a number of game supplyers i know who all download stuff ffast connections ect (1meg) are all having problems with the same games with the magic chips as a couple of them mod consoles as well. Anyways when im proved right i shall have a lovely shortcut to this thread and even the others i posted a couple of months ago , the way it stands at present id put my house on it & ive been in this game for 7 years or so so we'll wait and see

No need. psxmodsuk did the swap with me and i confirmed his findings. Yours will work on his and mine. He's got dodgy media. later this week I'll try and prove it by copying onto better media.

BTW, you're both a couple of Northern gits.

Sorry charlie your wrong this time m8 all the games that have been found not to boot have been copied on a couple of good branded discs at 1x speed pink premiums (the old tyuden phillips dye) & on sony media at 1x and they still don't boot.I can't wait till im proved right im away on thursday for a week when i get back im going to have some fun with you fella's .The reason his gt3 works is because kalisto released 3

I don't hope m8ty i know , ive been in this game long enough to know my stuff infact i find it a bit of an insult to my inteligence that you are douting me. The reason the couple of games i sent charlie where on bad media is because i had already tried coping them on good media at 1x and it made no diff. Its pretty straight forward to me i have no reason to slag the magic chips off other than pure facts these titles plus others will not boot on a magic modded console but as soon as a messiah is fitted all boot no problems even if they have been copied at 16x on shit media.So unless im telling you lies please explain why this happens. Anyway the backend of next week will put this thread to bed once and for all , when you recieve the backups i send you you'll see for yourself so make sure you have a magic & messiah console at the ready or it might be easyer to send them to charlie first with his socket , Anyway ill give you a bell craig when i return as i don't think ill get chance to sort them out and send them 2 morra before i go away :cool:

Yep I like Charlies socket. Not for testing games as such, but ideal for testing a chip I think tis dodgy.

One question I do have tho is, If you have been in the game long enuff, then why do you even bother with crap media?

Decent media is cheap enough nowadays, it's not even worth messing with cheap dvdr media cos the decent brands are only pennies more.

here's 1 for u had some magic 3 chips but could only get 25 games out of 75 to work then the laser went down on a new ps2
magic chip fitted then i got 5 more ps2s back all with magic 3 chip fitted so i sent an email to the dealers they are letting me return them with full refund luckyyyyy

This argument has gone on for ages with diff peeps. If I had a prob with my chips then I would scream at my suppliers! But I don't, so I won't.

Those that manufactured these obviously put more effort into the appearance than the functionality.

Why else would so many be happy with Magic3 if there wasn't some good suppliers out there?

A CloneCD copied copy of the RIP he sent me, burned at 4x on good media still didn't boot with Magic 3 but did with Messiah 2.

It didn't boot behind AR2 either.

One thing i'll say charlie is you never once said i was right or wrong until you tested for yourself which i respect m8. But when i come back from a bit of bussines late next week and send you 15-20 titles that all do the same i think you will totally agree with me , i hope you don't mind me sending you them to test but i would appre it also if you could forward them on to craig to carry out his own testing after you have finished with them , i now think my m8's found around 40 that don't boot with the magic but all flawlessly with messiah 1 & 2 .See the reason this isn't getting reported much is because my m8 now has around 500 ps'2 backups which i think go's a little beyond the avr collection , but don't worry charlie im not going to to send them all i think 10 or so should prove the point so thanks for taking the time to test and i'll be in touch late next week when all shall be revealed and i'll be drinking my free stella from my new buddy from hull (lol):D

I have 370 games m8 (mainly rips). And my problem is, whenever somebody mentions a game which doesn't work, I get mine and it does!

Don't be too long with these games - others have to provide a legitimate income as well you know :D

Another point to raise is the alternate 'W' point for Magic3! Have any of you guys tried it? I never have & even the cheapest dvd-r is booting no probs!

Ive started cleaning all my cd's & dvds with tetleys ale now no matter how many scratches or finger prints are on them the games boots falwlessley :D
I hope bin laden dosen't get his hands on any he could wipe out millions with that stuff :(

Lol - I'm in no doubt they will boot perfectly m8. What I want to do is see if I have the same version of the game that you do. Your statement was that Magics WONT boot some back-ups, now I havn't found a game yet that won't boot! If we have the same version, and mine works, I'll send you mine to prove that the prob lies elsewhere.

Yep and I sent something back Special D. The test rig PS2 is having some wires added and will be back in service Thursday. So I'll report around then or at the weekend.

Hia Charlie have you tried the rips i sent as i think i found that all the titles my mate can's get to boot on the magics (around 45) seem to be ntsc rips not 100% yet but its looking that way all boot with messiah 1 & 2 on pal machines
