For dvd games you need an original boot disc with a higher TOC than the game you are booting. The very first post on this board tells you the best options. You can see it here (http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42907)

im trying that but not having any sucess i dont know the process and when to switch and what to start with im using my original vice city to boot and its higher than the game im tryin to boot up. all those sites saying hold reset for 5 seconds etc etc doesnt work at all. so how do i do the swap trick to load burned dvd games?

Ok this tells me that your particular system cannot read dvd+r. Since the lasers settings in all ps2s are slightly different some will not be able to play dvd+r.

Ok, Try this first. Boot up your ps2 with NO disk in. let it go to the main menu (ie swirly electrons and option of browser etc)

On this menu hold down your reset button > Does the drive open then close after 5 seconds?

If it doesn't and you're POSITIVE you have the neo2.2 sounds like a bad install or a wire has come loose.

If ur not sure that you definatly have a neo2.2 try holding eject down instead. > Does the drive open and close after 5 seconds?

If it does you have a no solder mod.

Hope this helps

i have never managed to boot a dvd-r game using
an action replay 2 and a no solder mod chip.
(and i been trying for 6 months)

Just got a swap magic 2 boot disk
easy.....boot with swap magic 2 dvd boot disk
exchange for backup dvd-r when it says (swap trick)
press x and play game....about 15 seconds in all.

no mucking around with original dvd game..no double swap...
ps
allegedly only 1 in 10 PS2s will read dvd+r
(why on earth did you buy one of those)

The action replay 2 swap code works fine when done correctly. Although it is very easy to mess up. Dependant on which action replay 2 version you have depends on how you do the swap then you need to take into consideration table of contents issues etc.

Hmmm,

As for magic swap 2 discs, yeh, they boot dvdrs a lot easier but they are not without faults. Certain games refuse to boot > Hitman 2, pro evolution 2 etc. and many more.
Look for my previous post which has a list of games i tried using the swap magic 2.

the 1 in 10 ps2 comment isn't true. You usually find that version 1-4 machines can only play dvdr yet version 5-7 can play dvd+r. It's not on ratio, depends on the version of the machine.

yeah i have a neo 2.2 im positive because i soldered it in. and my ps2 is a V5 and i tried doing what you said go to the browser screen then hold the reset button down and my ps2 just powers off. its an 8 wire chip and i only soldered like 5 in like the instructinos told me to and i can play backups of ps1 and cd rom based ps2 games with no problem. i guess im gonna have to look into this more.

thanks

Sorry mate i was just reading my post and i must have been having a thick day yesterday

You need to HOLD your reset button the moment you turn it on.
So turn your machine on standby (red light) then when you press the reset button HOLD IT IN. let it go to the swirly electron stage then release it.

Does the drive go out then back in after 5 seconds? If it does then great everythings fine.

The boot procedure for dvdrs is a lot different to that of normal ps2 cdrs.
You have to load the machine up with action replay 2 in (holding the reset button all the time you do this) then insert a original dvd based game with a large table of contents (i use gta3), then do procedures with the action replay (Please see the sticky at the top of this forum for the procedure as it's difficult to explain)

then FINALLY let go of your reset button. Replace the original dvd with the dvdr, then boot .

It's a long procedure and a royal pain in the butt, plus the neo2.2 will take your laser down within time (See my version 4!)

Hope this helps, but do do check out the boot procedure bg posted.

Sorry but a neo2.2 on a v5 console or higher will not boot dvd-r. Get a no swap chip and trash the neo 2.2.

If I remember correctly if you just add a simple PNP chip you will be able to boot dvdr using any gameshark availiable.

You are correct Tyler, installing a no solder mod will work but if he does this then he may as well remove the laser eating neo chip, LOL, He already has a GS2 along with a hi TOC dvd game and dvd burner so he has no need to boot rips as the no solder boots all direct backups except dvd9.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I was basically stating an easy option if he still wants to keep his other modchip soldered and not spend an awful lot of money.

I would get a Messiah 2 myself but I dont know what his finances are.

that actually sounds like a good idea getting the pnp chip im going to look into it. if i get that im just gonna go into my ps2 and remove the neo wont be to difficult.

where would i get the messiah i usually get my chips off www.chipzone.com they have the pnp for 20 bucks. when i got my neo2.2 when it first came out it was like almost 50! they dropped alot wich is good to see. do you think the messiah chip is the way to go to play my dvd backups? or a pnp?

If you can afford the Messiah 2 and install, then I would recommend you go that route. It is the better all around chip.

do you think you can give me a good website to order it from? if the best all around chip then why not.
