I managed to struggle on reasonably successfully backing up PSX games but my son has now moved up to PS2 thanks to Santa. I have invested in a Magic 2 chip for the PS2. My PC has a DVD/CD Combi drive and a separate regular CD burner. Do I have the necessary hardware to do the job or do I need a DVD burner?

You can back up alot of ps2 games to cd after patching ths shit out of em. But your would be far better off to get a pioneer dvd burner. I got my A-05 for 200 bucks.

CD-ROM based games use CloneCD. However, your burner need to be 100% compatible with program i.e. RAW-DAO 96

Also, a lot of PS2 games are on DVD format nowadays so basically it's worth investing in a DVD writer. Go for the Pioneer A05 or the Sony Dru 500a.

DVD based PS2 games use Recordnow Max.

Check on the back of the case at the bottom to see if it's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM game.
