I have a PAL PS2 30003 version 4, with neo 2.2.
It works every time with cdr backups, even cheap unbranded, so I dont think it is the laser. But it wont boot dvd-r's, I use GTA 3 as an original high TOC, use Memorex dvd-r, burn't discs o.k. with nero and Prassi, use a Pioneer 105, windows XP, and have used Region X and AR2 v2.
When I try to load the backup after the tray on the PS2 ejects the tray wont go back in on its own so I have to use the eject button to return it.
I have followed all the guides on booting that are out there, turn off 5 seconds, hold the power button, eject the AR2, put in high TOC orig etc etc. But the tray won't go in on its own.
Do I need a new chip or a new vesion PS2.
Some one must now what I am doing wrong.
Is it me or is it Memorex.

seems like lots of people having trouble getting version 4's to read dvdr's.

I had probs recently too. PS2 version 4's have trouble reading dvdr because the laser is calibrated specifically not to read them when it was made.

Unfortunately the only way round it is to adjust the laser cal slightly. Its reasonably simple to do and lots of sites tell you how.

just have a look on google.

first of all if you can get a new ps2 with a a straight boot chip that would be the better solution but with the machine u have u will not be able to boot dvd-r's with that version of ar u need v1.90 or v1.93 also remember that the toc of orig must be higher than the dvd-r gta 3 is ok but i have had some probs now and again now i use devil may cry demo (also orig is good as it is the same toc) and had no probs at all hope any of this helps scamper
