What original disk are you using to boot your DVD-R games with?. Try using DMC demo that comes with Resident Code:Veronica, not the Platinum version as this has a very high TOC size. Also, try cleaning your laser and use a good brand of DVD-R disk, i.e. 'Verbatim'. You say you have a Neo 2.2 and a V3 PS2, the V3 has a weak laser compared to the later models that are available now, and the Neo chip will eventually burn out your laser in time as they are crap. I suggest that you get a direct boot chip if you have the cash.:)

I seem to have these same problems, I have a 30003 version 4, with neo 2.2.
It works every time with cdr backups, even cheap unbranded, so I dont think it is the laser. But it wont boot dvd-r's, I use GTA 3 as an original high toc, use Memorex dvd-r, nero and Prassi, Pioneer 105, windows XP, I have used Region X and AR2 v2.
When I try to load the backup after the tray on the PS2 ejects the tray wont go back in on its own so I have to use the eject button to return it.
Is it me or is it Memorex.

DVD laser power setting and cd laser power setting totally independant from each other so while your laser might be fine to read cdr that doesn't mean its set up to read dvdr.

Simple test: get a dvd movie backup on dvdr. modded and unmodded ps2's play these no problem. put it in as if its an original dvd movie and see if your ps2 reads it. if it won't then laser needs adjusting. If it reads the movie backup fine then its your method of copying / booting thats the prob. I suspect though one being V.3 and the other V.4 it'll be a laser issue.

At the end of the day you can use the best dvdr in the world and still get no result or you can choose the hard way. I recalibrated a version 4 a week ago and it was read bulkpaq dvdr's no problem when we were done.

PS.. Don't know why everyone goes so mad over verbatim. traxdata or dvdmaster just as good and cheaper.

I'm with you on this..... I have been using the Ritek dvd-r's...... They are AWESOME....
NOTE: To those of you that don't know Ritek makes a zillion different kinds of dvd-r's.... The ones I have use the EXACT same dye as the Traxdata....(And they are EASY to get in the US since Traxdata is not)....

Just a thought about the above mentioned problems.... I would highly suspect your laser being the problem. Since you are BOTH using the NEO (which will FRY your laser) that would be my bet...

Try ottoman's advice about the movie (on dvd-r).... That will give you the answers you seek.....

Thanks for the reply,
I just tried the DVD-R Movie in my PS2 and it worked perfect first time on unbranded, so I guess it is not a laser prob.
What I cannot understand is why the tray won't go in on its own when booting, that has got to be the problem.
Any body had this prob before ? ... any strange boot up methods that have worked with this NEO 2.2 chip. Somebody must know.
Is it me or is it Memorex.

Hi i,ve also got the 105 dvd-r writer but i can't get prassi primo to recognise it as the writer . it will only recognise my lite-on cd r burner. my version of nero recognises it as a writer. any ideas?:(

The 105 and Prassi are not fully compatible. Use RecordNow Max for DVD backups, www.stompinc.com for demo/purchase.
