After hours of reading interesting threads on this forum, I know many things for sure like buying a Sony dru500 drive (sorry all you Pioneer-users ;). Traxxdata would be the right disks to buy I think, but there is still one thing I just can't seem to sort out. It is my playstation and how to (re-)mod it.
I have a SCPH-30004 PAL version serial C 137xxx. 10 screws at the base, with a Neo mod installed. (I use Region-x to boot)
I want to play DVD backups of my games now, so I want a Messiah 2 mod chip. My question is: Is this mod ok for my PSX and what about that laser-thing I have been reading about. Will the DVD backups play smoothly or is my PSX or is it (the laser that is) 'too' old?
Since I still have to buy al of this stuff any help would be much appreciated.

Messiah 2 is universal so it will work with PAL machines..
As for Media's Best bet would be -R's since you got a earlier model since they DO NOT read +R's at all most cases..

Thanx A03 for the DVD-R tip.
I'll remember that. But my main concern for my PSX2 was the laser-unit that came with it.
Will my movies skip for for example because it's one of the older versions - as you mentioned- or are those guys reporting these flaws just unlucky ? I also read if you keep the laser clean with a cleaning-disc with brushes this will eleminate the problem of skipping movie-sequences. (or other reading-problems) Am I better of selling this PSX and get a new (V7-serie) one -with a Messiah 2 of course-, before I invest more of my hard earned bucks into this one ?

With Messiah 2 it does not affect the DVD playback like the earlier direct boot chips affect it..
For example Magic2 or Messiah 1..They run DVD movies but there is chance that it will skip and such or doesn't run at all..
Personally If I was in your position I would get a new machine but it's not necessary..matter of funds..That's all :D

Thanks again for your reply.
I spoke to the guy who will fit the Messiah into my (good old) psx and he said if anything starts skiping during playback he'll fit it into my new psx for almost no cost at all. Since this is such a good deal (well, I think it is anyway) I'll have a go at re-modding my old psx first. Your're right it' s a matter of funds (...)
I also would like to thank all the the other members (esp. the die-hard members) of this great forum, you've all been a great help in sorting out many things for me in this area. Nothing left for me to do now than to get my psx re-modded and lining up for the DRU500A since it seems to be sold out everywhere in the Netherlands.
Thanks again, later
