I have a V4 PS2 with a magic 3 chip installed. I've backed up my CDR games with no problems. However, in the future I plan on buying a DVD burner. I realize that there are two formats. Which on is better? Should I just go for the Sony model that supports both formats just to be safe? One other thing, when is CloneDVD coming out? Thanks for your time!

If you have a v4 then buying a dvd burner that supports +r and -r won't do you much good. v1-v4 don't play dvd+r/rw worth a crap. Not sure about CloneDvd.

Not necessary True! B/c believe it or not there are several Ver.4's
out there that DOES infact run DVD+R's..Strange as it might sound but it does..Although overall likely typical Ver.4 WILL NOT run +R's..Getting the Sony DRU500A is not a BAD investement at all..You get the -R and +R support where A05 is only -R support.
It seems like I'm bashing A05 but I'm not..I own A05 myself but I plan to get Sony -R+R Drive in the future very soon..Matter of within month or so..For mere $50.00 to $60.00 I think it's worth it.

Yes it does on rare occurances. But if you aren't going to use the +r option why spend the extra money for it?

Why Not? It's a bonus..It's not like buying a whole new drive..
It's a extra feature for few more dollars..

My buddy is running some backed up DVD+R games on his V3 PS2 so I'll just give them a whirl in my system when I see him again. Otherwise it sounds like I need -R/-RW correct?

That's your call and decision..Whatever you got in your pocket will determine what drive you buy..
