I just installed (carefully) a modchip into my 7501 model today

and tested it immediately to see if it would play my normal

(original) game cd. It checked out alright, but an hour or two later

I returned to play again and now, no matter what game I try, it

gives me a screen reading....

Recheck the install, its most likely a loose wire or a solder bridge.

I was very careful not to touch any other solder points and cover all connections with tape. Should I still take it apart again?

Yes, make sure the chip is not grounding against anything(completely wrap the chip in electrical tape)and that the wires and chip are not being pinched.

I did that too, but now I think I have an idea of what the problem might be.

Chipzone's mod they sent me is of the chip in a socket type which

they claim is so that I can change upgraded chips into the socket.

I think the problem is that the combination of the two are so

frickin tall that the metal plate the laser unit sits on is resting on

top of the chip and socket. (mods are soldered onto the top of

the circuit board on 7501 models) This seems to be preventing

me from screwing it all the way down. The other matter is that

the screw holes on the board have these metal contact

grid-looking things. I am guessing that the metal plate is

supposed to contact these grids for the playstation to operate.

There seem to be all kinds of anti-tampering goodies like these in

my later model of PSX.

I am affraid I screwed it down too tight last time and I have

damaged the chip because of its poor size for my model.

I am about to screw it looser and see if it works.......

That was it, it was screwed down too tight. Thank goodness I seem to be wrong about the grid contacts around the screw holes. Time to figure out how to copy games now.

Maybe I'm just talking to myself now, but the frackin thing did it again. I took it apart to examine it, loosened some screws to release some pressure off the chip and it played like normal the first time and then never again!!!!

Any more ideas Warlock???

LoL, You may have damaged the chip, I never did like the chips with the socket board, LOL. I would take it apart and examin the chip as well as the socket board for cracks. You may want do do away with the socket board all together (just a thought). Check all wires for rips or flat spots in case one got pinched also Tug lightly on the wires that connect to the board to be sure they are well connected. Most of all move the chip to a different

Now that the mod chip is out, the game booted up just fine...

of course I had to check it three times this go around.

I think your right, the chip has to be the problem especially

because i took the time to do a really clean soldering job. I cut

the exposed ends of the wire down to fit exactly on the contact

points and everything. Now, I feel very confident that it is

modchip's fault for recomending me a chip that was too tall

for my model, but let's see what they think.
