I bought a pre modded playstation 2 v7 but i do not know what chip is it.... is there anyway to know without opening the ps2 up?

The easiest way would be to ask the guy/store who sold it to you. :)

thanks anyways, im remembering that he put in a magic 3 chip... but im am not sure. how do i check?

Reading BG's boot guide for the magic3, it is a no-swap chip and you just put in the backed up game and play it.

Is that how you are playing your games? Or are you having to do some sort of swap trick? If the latter, then it is not a magic3.

i am just putting the game in close tray reboot and play for my back ups

could be any no-swap chip , messiah, magic 2/3, ripper????? theres a few that boot with that method.

only way to tell exactly is to open it up

Could also be a clone.

If you're booting a PS1 backup by holding the reset for a couple seconds (but just hitting reset once for PS2 discs), it's probably a Magic3 or a clone.
