Well, today, i put in a backup of timesplitters2. The ps2 went to the "browse, system configuration" screen. Did this repeatedly.

So i pull out the timesplitters 2 dvd, put in another game, it worked.

I know for a fact the laser on this ps2 isn't top-notch. But the media is same for both timesplitters 2 (TDK dvd-R). I might have burnt timsplitters at 1x while the other game was burnt at 2x using Primo Dvd.

You guys think this is a media issue? The way I burnt it? Mod chip installation?

Oh: also, I put in 2 CD-R games and it froze at the "Playstation 2" screen that comes up when the game first boots up.

This ps2 also had problems with TDK DVD-R 1x burnt Vice City: freezing, getting in-game message "GTA:VC failed to read DVD".

Did you have problems with any games before you put in your M2?

Thanks for the reply bighap

This is a friend's ps2 and i suspect the unit needs cleaning.

Before installing the mod chip, the installer noticed it was really dusty and wouldn't even play movies on Dvd-r. Cleaning it out helped.

I think I know the answer to my post is having the owner clean the unit, I was just looking for some confirmation to that :)

Aside from a Neo chip, dust is probably the worst thing for a PS2 laser.;) Yes, keep the unit clean and have your buddy get a laser cleaner, its a disc with little brushes on it.

I edited the above post. I accidently called it a disc cleaner instead of a laser cleaner. I personally vacume out the vents of my PS2 every other week and keep it covered with a pillow sheet to keep it dust free. I know this is a little much but it keeps my PS2 always playing like new.
