I sent my ps2 to get it chipped by messiah 2
I thought i had a v4 ps2 but I really have a v3 and he
won't chip it because the motherboard is half the size and is
generally harder to chip then other versions

So I have decided to buy a new one

What is the newest version of ps2
and how do I know by just looking at the box, so I will know that
i'm buying the newest Version, when at the shops

cheers

an angry ps2 owner

The box should have a cutout that lets you see the serial and model #. Not sure what the latest is though.

V7 is the newest. Look for this: SCPH 3900x

This may not be entirely true...... There is a new # but I'm unsure if its just a number change or a board revision.... I will keep everyone posted as soon as I confirm the difference....

I've checked it out. The latest v7s (3900x) PAL versions at least have GH-022 mobo which is fully Messiah 2 compatible. (I've got one right here).

As a matter of interest, we also charge more for doing v3 installs because every ph*cking wire has to be soldered plus the need to recalibrate the DVD laser diode.

What??? The V7 or the one I was referring to?

The V7 is a SCPH-3900x (The x will be a number)
The one I was talking about doesn't even have a SCPH number.

There are def 2 different V7 boards - The obvious differences are, The bios chip has different legs in the middle and the reset/Z points are copper in colour!
