Hello everybody.
I have recently had the messiah 1 chip put in my version 3 PS2 and after only 3 weeks of it being in there the console has decided not to boot CDr's anymore. It keeps coming up with disc read error. It still plays DVDr's most of the time anyway but some of the games I have are on CD. Do I need to calibrate the laser of is it trying to tell me that it's had it! Do you think it just needs a clean or something? Also, the DVDr's that work are on Traxdata discs which I have bought off of one of my friends but when I have tried to back-up on my own using Bulkpaq generation 4 discs and Princo discs they have not worked. Any ideas?
It has cost me a fortune to get it chipped, infact almost as much as a whole new console costs but please be brutal with you answers coz I'd rather know than waste more money.
Thanx Guy's
Jimmy

I am not an excpert on the issue, specially about messiah but i would idvice you do give more details if u want a good answer!
For instance, is there any noise when trying to boot cdrs is it just black screen? How long before you chiped it did you have it? Whas it chiped whith another mod? Why dont you try to ask the place where u chiped it? after all its their obligation to tell u whats wrong?

Thanx for replying.
With the Messiah Chip, you have to insert the disc and then press reset and then the game boots in. Now what happens is that only some DVDR games boot straight in but more importantly No CD Games boot in not even originals or music CD's or anything. It just goes to the browser screen and then comes up with "Disc read error"It makes the usual kind of Disc reading noise that you can here usually but it doesn't stop and boot in.
The games did work when I first got it back from the chipping company the second time because the first time they sent it back it only worked for about 10 minutes and the everything stopped so I had to send it back to be fixed. They said that it was a loose wire on the chip and fixed it no problem apparently.
The console wasn't chipped or modded in anyway before this and it is 2 years old this month.
I hope this helps you to maybe find the answer. The problem with the chipping company Playstationchips uk (www.playstationchipsuk.co.uk) is that they seem a bit cowboyish in there working practice and are very very hard to get a hold of. They never seem to answer thier phone or reply to any e-mails.
Thanx for your time.
Regards
Jimmy

There is a chance that when a wire came loose that it may have caused a problem elsewhere on the board. Either by contact, or simply missing a link from the messiah.

Other than that all i can suggest is to admit defeat and sell your v3 ps2. I recently upgraded from a version 4(Chipped from day 1) to version 7 and even though the v4 booted everything perfectly, i personally have noticed faster loading times and quieter disc action.

Speak to charlie_ps2 or dust2dust from this forum reg buying machine premodded with messiah 2. No cowboys here, just people helping us with the things we love....cheap games!:p

Since your PS2 is a V3 and is older...... It may be that your laser is on they way out.....
You could try re-adjusting the laser BUT it will probably only postpone the inevitable....
May be time to consider getting a new (or newer) PS2.....
