View Full Version : Dvd's that do not work well!
Hello, I have a v5 ps2 modded with messiah. I have been playing my dvd-r's without any problem for a lot of time, but recently, they do not work very well. For example, when I'm playing gta vice city, suddently the game freezes and stops loading. but this happens also with mgs and ffX! can anybody tell me why my ps2 does not load my games correctly if at the beginning it did? can it be solved (perhaps it is a lens power problem?)?
Please help me.
Thanks a lot!
i forgot to say that cdr's and original dvd's work perfectly well. the problem is only with dvd-r's

what dvd-r are you using?
I have no problems with Traxdata DVD-R, others have no problems with Verbatim etc DVD-R
Sounds like your problem is with cheap(er) brand media
i use princo and traxdata dvd-r. but as i told you before, a time ago, this games worked perfectly well. which brand do you recommend?

I had the same problem with the apple media....
I contacted my guy who installed the messiah...
precisionmods.com
he said it sounds like the laser was going bad.....
but what was strange was that when I load a princo dvd, it works fine...perfect.....
nevertheless, your laser might be going bad, depends on how much you have been using it.....also you might be able to search for bad lasers and someone might be able to walk you through the sound it makes to give you an idea.......
hope it helped...
then, there isn't any solution if the laser is going bad?
is it possible to change the laser. how will it cost?
Yes, it is possible to change the laser....
The last lasers I priced were around the $60-$80 range....Then you have to either install it yourself or have someone do it for you.....
Bill @ freedomlives.com charges this for the install:
PS2 Laser Head Replacement & alignment: $25.00
That will give you a idea of what your looking at....
ok, thanks for your help.
