i dont know bout the cheep media, but i do no that these chips dont need gameshark to play; magic1/2or3, apple, matrics1/2,ripper1/2, and the messhias.

the PS2 can be very fussy on what dvd-r media it reads.

my advice would be if you want perfect backups 1st time go for the bigger boys such as TDK/Verbatim etc. If you are prepared to test out cheaper brand media then cerry on until you find the right disc for you (you might get lucky :D )

Thanks To All That Replied .i have decided to order the verbatim disc and thanks for the modchip info im looking at a magic chip but its got 22 wires to solder i think looks like a challenge but it would be well worth it in the end if it works just hope i dont make a mistake and bridge over a few solder joints but again thanks to all that helps out .

A usb mod will NOT boot dvd-r. You must update to a better chip.
