View Full Version : Burn at 1x or 2x??
Got my A04 set up.
First time, it gave me a buffer over run error.
Updated firmware (thanks BG!!). Downgraded to PIO mode.
Then did at test at 2x which completed successfully.
Now question: will it be ok if i burn dvd-r at 2x and in DMA mode? Or is 1x in DMA mode ok?
The reason i ask is because in PIO mode, my computer slows down like hell.... I can't do anything while Primo is running.
Thanks!!
It depends on what media you are using. If you are using a branded media i.e.: Verbatim, Traxdata, TDK etc... then it should be ok to burn at 2x. However if you are not using branded media then burn at 1x.
By the sounds of your problem, your computer is slowing down so much it is giving you a buffer under run error. On the software you are using (I would use Primo DVD) then check BURN-Proof in the options as the A04 does support this. If your computer is slowing down to the extent that you say it is then burn at 1x just to be safe.
You mention trying to use your computer at the same time but it is too slow. If this is the case then don't use it. The burner will need all the system resources it can get and if you are using a program at the same time then you are taking some of its resources away which will cause it to error up if your computer is quite slow.
Hope This Helps...

Plus, you really shouldnt be multitasking your pc when burning. No matter what.
I burn at 2x almost all the time. Everyonce in a while a game that doesnt burn correctly will require a 1x burn. It also goes the other way around, a game that doesnt burn well at 1x usually burns fine at 2x.
Tyler!
You may need to close any extra programs that are running in the background.
Thanks for the helpful replies, appreciate it,
I have a 1.6Ghz processor and 512MB DDR, even then no multi-tasking?
Anyway, I think this was a firmware issue or the fact that i had the burner on DMA. I reset it to PIO, had the same other program running in the background and i burnt at 1x without any problems.
Ok, since I am using TDK, I can do it at 2x?
Also, where is the "Burn-Proof" option in Primo Dvd?
