Parallel I /O port Mods...do they work?

Do the Parallel I /O port mod-chip subsitutes work as well (if not better) than internal chips?

nothing beats an internal modchip!
some games u will not be able to boot with the mod cart!

I think i'll just pick up a pre-moded PSOne.
