View Full Version : Question about modchip/bios
Is everyone switching to the Evox or Matrix modcip? In other words are these two becoming defactos for the modcips of choice? Ive looked a Enigmah, Executors, and both seem to be inferior to the Evox and MAtrix.

EvoX isn't a modchip. They are bios that people use and put on the xodus/matrix and other flashable chips. The x-ecutor is still good, but the xodus is better. It doesn't rewuire any soldering and you can put whatever bios you want on it.
A new non-solder x-ecutor modchip is comming out soon, so I'd get that.
After extensive research, homebrew seems to be the best. You can get the best of all the chips as one. As for solder vs no-solder, go for solder as long as you can update your Bios through the dashboard. The no-solder mods get loose and are a hassle from what I've seen. Look for a a homebrew with these features: 1 MB rom, flashable through dash, the ability to disable the chip, region free DVD, proper support. Good luck!

Homebrew isn't then best anymore. The only reason people made their own chip was because they could upgrade it. Now, xodus, x-ecutor 2, and biox are far better. They are either no solder, or have 10- areas to solder (only 1 is hard). The homebrew has 30 areas to solder (which can be stressful). You'd need to pay someone to solder it for you unless you are skilled at soldering.
Okay, thank you for the clarification. Something I did notice on the Matrix is that the ROM size is on 256Kb. Whereas the X-ecutor has a 1MB rom size. What are the advantages of having a bigger ROM? Willl future BIOS's require more ROM space?
Larger Bios won't be required, but may add useful features you want. If all you want to do is play back-ups, it doesn't really matter. Also, I strongly disagree with getting a no-solder mod. I would hold off for the X-ecuter - II like Quall said if you can't find a better homebrew, but do yourself a favor and have that banshee soldered firmly in place. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, someone can do it for you with a guarantee (insurance) for around $30 or less, well worth the price.
