Hi.

I new at this forum and I've got a problem that I hope you guys can help me with.

I have two image files of GTA3 on my harddrive (cue/bin cd-1 and cd-2) and it works fine with daemon tools, but when I burn the images to cd and try to install the game from the cd I get a error message. It pops up right after the first box where you can select the language for the installation. The InstallShield Wizard is about to start but then this error message pops up:

CAN NOT INSTALL INSTALLATIONSUPPORTFILE 'C:\DOCUME~1\MYNAME~1\LOKALE~1\Temp\{92B94569-6683-4617-8C54-EB27A1B51B30}\Bbrd1.bmp'
Serious error.

Once I got this message instead:

The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed.
The folder 'InstallShield' could not be created.
Make sure that you have the appropriate privileges to create this folder. (0x5)

I've got admin rights, so thats not the problem, but what is the problem?

I'm running XP pro SP1

Thanks,
Ferdinand

someone or yourself, has tried to replace the gta3.exe file with a cracked one in ur cab files unsuccesfully (probably with the wrong version of i6comp)

or u could be telling the truth, and if u are u could load the images in daemon tools, and extract that bmp file that doesnt work with the correct version of i6comp , then u could get the files ready to burn to a cd, and replace the bmp in the cabs with the one u extrracted

Hi Ferdinand, I _think_ this is caused because the M$ Cabinet file handler - cabinet.dll - is not properly installed on your system. Thus, the IKERNEL.EXE file is copied to the correct place but it's still a CAB file, not a genuine executable!

I'm also experiencing this problem (Windows '98, initial release) but found no real solution to it. So, I'm uncompressing problem CAB files with "extract", "i5comp" or "i6comp" manually...

Why would I lie?? and about what?? I don't know if the files have been modified or replaced with cracks or what ever! I don't know that mutch about this stuff so I hope you guys can help me. Why does it work fine when I install the game with deamon tools but not when I've burned it? The files don't change when they are burned do they?

I've also tried to install it om my friends computer to see if it worked but I got the same error message.

I don't even know what i6comp is..??? Can someone explain to me how I can fix the problem I have with this game please?

I still don't understand why it's different when it's burned to a cd, cause it works fine when I install from the image files??

Hey Ferdinand, perhaps, if you don't know what "i6comp" is then you should search for it on Altavista or Google. Anyway, grab Windows Commander and find IKERNEL.EXE on your hard disk. Oress Ctrl-PgDn on it so you will see its contents. If it _really_ is a CAB file then you'll see _another_ IKERNEL.EXE inside, the real. Copy the real IKERNEL.EXE out of it into another directory and then overwrite the CAB-style IKERNEL.EXE with it. Hope this helps,

Joe

Tried creating brand new images from the orignals?? Maybe the images have messed up?

It was not a IKERNEL file at all on my computer but it was one on the GTA3 CD. "IKERNEL.ex_" Nothing happend when I pressed Ctrl-PgDn. Only a information box pops up when I hoover the mousecursor over is, giving the size and file type EX_

Hi Ferdinand, the IKERNEL.EXE is installed under something like C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\... Try to find it there. Don't try to hack the IKERNEL.EX_ file, that's _definitely_ compressed (you can uncompress it with "extract", I guess).

Ok, I found the ikernel on my computer and I think it is the real one. InstallShield (R) Setup Engine. ?? I don't know what do do next?? Why is it different when the game is burned on cd? I don't understand it. The installation works fine when I install from the image files with deamon tools. This is frustrating http://www.plauder-smilies.de/yellows/boom.gif

And what about installing from the originals? Does that work or not?

That's exactly what we have been getting at.

dkjsafbjk was correct in assuming someone was messing with the cab files. The person you got it off has tried unsuccessfully to replace the main exe inside the cab file with a fixed one.

The .bmp error is a common error when someone messes in this way with the GTA3 cabs.

Now, you have to read the forum rules as warez cannot be discussed on this board sorry.

oh, dont be sorry - he didnt read the rules.

Ok sorry, I didnt know about the rules. But if someone have the original game and want to copy it to his/her hdd so they dont have to change cd's everytime they switch games, would they have to do the same procedure that the crackers do to get the game working? But then its legal. Am I right?

Anyway, if someone know what I'll have to do to get GTA3 working from the cd's you could always send me an e-mail if it's against the rules to discuss it here.

Thanks

The answer is no, you wouldn't have to go through 'the procedures that the crackers do' to get a game running from a Daemon Tools image if you had the original cd-roms. For knowledge on copying games, read the sticky topic FAQ.

As far as your request for an email goes, I don't think the mods will have a good attitude to it.
