I'm trying to install RCT2, and it will go through the loading bar but stops on a blank screen and stops responding. We think its a protection problem on the CD (my cd rom is only 2 years old!).

I've downloaded the patch from this website and tried to follow the instructions but i'm stuck. Where EXACTLY do i put the grurct2cd.rar file that i downloaded?

It just says replace the rct2.exe file with this one. But the programme wouldn't run when i tried that - it needs an .exe file.
I tried changing the codes within the autorun wordpad documents, but that mucks it up. I also tried copying all the files from the cd onto my hard drive and installing it from there. It will, but it still needs the cd to load the programme once it's installed.

Any help anyone???

A .rar file is a form of file compression, kinda like .zip. You have to UN-rar it. I use the winace archiver program, get it at www.winace.com.

It's works like winzip in that they "call" it an evaluation version, but it never quits working. Ha HA! Mine says "30-day evalution exceeded by 60 days" LOL.

Use that and you'll be good to go.

Many people reported problems with the Securom protection on the original RCT2 cd.

Copy the files to your hard disk and install the game from there. Then unrar the "grurct2cd.rar" file using the latest versions of WinAce or WinRar3 (you can get these searching www.google.com) and replace the original RCT2.EXE with the one from "grurct2cd.rar".

Just like to say cheers for your help guys!
The no-cd patch worked but the game still won't load. Grrr!

The no cd patch works fine. However, when I quit a game and get back to the main menu where you can pick new scenario, the game complains about not being able to load the park that runs on the background. You can still select a new scenario or the coaster/scenario designer etc so it's just a slight annoyance. Seems like a bug to me.

I made a copy of my original RCT2 and used the NoCD and it works fine even when you quit the game and start a new one...

Maybe you have a damaged file...

Weird... I'm going to try it again with a reinstall from the original cd and no crack and see if that solves it... It's no real gamestopping bug, but it sure is messy :mad:

Well your problems are quite minimal!

Hey I've tried installing and uninstalling RCT2 so many times that we accidentally deleted the original game and all our saved games! (we couldn't get them back).

We've tried the no-cd patch - no success.

We've even reformatted the computers hard drive to see if a clean slate would get it working. And it still wont run. Not only that when we reinstalled the original RCT after RCT2 the loopy landscapes add on wouldn't work either!

We're going to take RCT2 back. And never buy anything from Infogrames again.

BTW Rincewind - it's not the Luggage that's causing your problems is it???!!!! :-)
