View Full Version : ps2 backups
I just installed a non solder modchip. I am able to play store bought ps2 games. But when I try to play a backup of one of the games I all ready have, all I get is a black screen. I am not sure if the modchip is not working or if its a bad copy of a ps2 game. I have clonecd 4, fireburner, cdrwin3.9b. Which program is better to make a backup of spyhunter 2? I tried to use clonecd but I keep getting the same error. It says the spy2.sub does not match the spy2.img. (spy2 is what I named the file).
I also tried to go the link wwww.psxcopyworld.co.uk/CDRwin_Tutorial.htm but was unable to get in
Any Ideas or advise that can help me?

Can you tell me what features are needed for ps2 backups and maybe a model number? Thanks.

How much do they go for?
what type of media should I use?
How much does that go for?
Sorry for being a bother, but I just want to do this correctly the first time around.

The burners go from around, $200.00 -$350.00 (US funds)
The Media you should use is DVD-R... The price for them really
depends on brand... The better the brand, the higher the price.
You can pick up DVD-R's for about $2.00 a piece (cheaper quality)
AND some can cost as much as $5-6.00 a piece...
You're not a bother.... I would want as much info as possible if I was going to shell out my hard earned cash...

Yeah same here. No bother man.
You may also want to invest in the Sony DRU-500a drive. It has been confirmed to work with PS2 and Xbox games. There are some complications with Prassi and even Record Now Max being able to identify it but thats currently being worked on.
Stomp Record Now Max has said that within a week they should have the drivers to make the Sony Drive compatible.
I am also thinking that the AO5 will have similar problems.

I am going to take your advise a buy a DVD burner. Why do some people talk about cdrwin, and clonecd when speaking about ps2 backups? Can this software be used with a DVD burner?
Not ALL PS2 games are on DVD...There are quite a few that are cd based....
For those you should use CloneCD....
AND a 100% compatible cd burner....

I think you meant "cd based" and not "pc based". :p
The actual disc itself will say "Compact Disc" or "DVD-ROM"

Like this:
1. CD ps2 game = Blue bottom
2. DVD ps2 game = Silver bottom
3. Dual Layered DVD ps2 game = Gold bottom

I am a total newbie as well. As for the quote above; seeing as how dual layer burners are not avaliable to the public, what is stopping sony from making all of their games dual layer, thus preventing any backing up and copying? (or is there a way?)

I dont know why Sony hasnt done that. I cant think for them, Im just glad they havent for the time being.

because to make them dual layer they have to add alot of crap useless information to make them big enough
we can rip dvd games to cd
im sure if dual layer became norm for games it wouldnt take long to learn how to rip to dvdr

It wouldnt be that hard to make them all Dual layered. All the game companies have to do is put a Big Dummy file. They already do that now. Just to trick rippers into making extractors for these useless files.
Take LOTR Fellowship for example it has a 1.5 gig dummy files. If they can do that Im sure they can put a few more just to make a Dual Layered game.

Well the problem wouldnt be the ripping. It would be the extracting files from the second layer of the game. Or even extracting hidden files, whether they be dummy or real files. We would need to see them to know for sure.
Thats is what is not the easy part.
Tyler!
lol
