I have read recently on a few web sites that backups on CDRW and DVDRW can be booted in PS2 however have tried a back-up on CDRW with no joy. Do I have to do anything different when copying or booooting? I have a v.5 PS2 with HBC mod chip.

SOME PS2's will read the -RW discs....
BUT, you would be much better off using CD-R & DVD-R...and have much greater success...
What is a HBC mod chip....?

I have heard of some v5's that are able to do this. Not many though.

HBC is a Messiah clone mod chip. No swaps, kills green screen DVD on euroscart cables and takes 8 hours and a microscope to fit the 21 wires.

Could you please send me the boot procedures for your mod chip and a picture if possible.
I would like to add this chip to my post "PS2 boot procedures for all mod chips"
Thanks...

Looks and works exactly like Messiah. Directly boots ps1 cdr, ps2 cdr and ps2 dvdr. No swaps, no boot discs. no AR2.

Boots PS1 CDR straight from switching on
Booots ps2 cdr and dvdr when switched on and reset once.
