Hi all,

I have the Sbox modchip, a v4 PS2. I am using a gameshark. On the bottom of the CD it reads, "Gameshark 2 Version 2 - Americas 1.99c". I know the sbox is installed properly, because I can boot backup PSX games directly by just turning the sbox on.

None of the current instructions on how to boot backup PS2 games works with my setup. I turn on the PS2 with the gameshark in, it loads to the main menu. I turn on the sbox. I go to start game, without codes. Then I take out the gameshark, and put in a backup game. Now if I press X here, the background stops moving, the tray doesn't pull in, and nothing happens. If I close the tray, and wait, I can hear the cd load a bit, then stop spinning, then if I hit x, nothing happens and the background freezes. The ONLY way I've gotten it to work so far is to close the tray and JUST as the tray closes, hit x, and it works like 1/20th of the times I try.

Can anyone direct me to instructions for the new gamesharks, or tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or if I have to hit x just as the tray's closing, can you give me a clue as to exactly when I have to hit x? Thanks a lot.

Close the tray and press O+R1 instead of x to load the game.

Hey Warlock...What version of Gameshark does the O+R1 method apply too...
So I can update my mod chip booting procedure post...

It doesnt have as much to do with the GS2 version as it does with the crap USB mod. Alot of people had this problem when the first Neo-keys were released. In some cases (not all) backups seem to load better by pressing O+R1 instead of X.

Ok, I tried the R1+O thing. All it seems to do is the same thing as if I press X. It still doesn't pull the tray in, and the only time I've gotten it to load a game is if I do it EXACTLY when the tray closes. And it's still not 100%. Any other tips?

UH...You are supposed to close the tray before you press 0+r1. It will not close by itself.

Right, I did that. :) I was just making sure that it wasn't supposed to close itself. But, when am I supposed to press r1+O, or does it matter? You know, you press reset, the tray slides back in, it makes a few loading noises, and then stops. The only way I've gotten it to work is to hit it JUST as the tray is closing, before it starts making loading noises. But that still doesn't work most of the time.
