Hello!

I've finally bought my premod ps 2, and started out with a gold-back (pirated) copy of this much-talked about Kingdom Hearts (I know its for younger ages, but I'm just curious :D ). Problem is, after the "sony computer entertainment" screen it reads,

---- "please insert a playstation or playstation2 disk------

I think this is what they call a DRE or disk read error. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the machine or the "chip mode" (psx vs. ps 2) I'm in, because the other gold-back (pirated) disks I have works perfectly.

It's probably just a defective disk, but I've heard about there being something wrong with the game (Kingdom Hearts) itself that makes it prone to getting dre's.

I need to get this clear before I go changing the disk at the shop.

What type of mod chip does your pre-modded PS2 have in it?
Also, how are you trying to boot the game....

It's a Magic 2 no-swap, for a version 7 390002.

I tried to get a Messiah, but the shop owner said he did not carry those. Tried other shops, and they had the cheek to tell me they were JUST DISTRIBUTORS, and didn't know what chip was used to mod their machines.

As for the booting, the shop owner told me to switch the modes like this:

Insert the disk and power down to standby. Power up and hold the reset button until either the psx/ps 2/dvd logo shows up on screen. Switch between modes using the same technique. No need to switch modes if playing the same format as the one prior to shutdown.

Thanks

Is Kingdom Hearts a PS1 game or PS2 game....I don't have it, so i'm not sure....

BUT.... From what I've seen its a PS2 game... If so, you are trying to boot the game wrong....You are trying to boot it in PS1 mode.
Try this:

Insert the game in the tray. Close the tray.
Press reset once.
Game should boot.

Thanks, BG!

I'll try it out.
