I have a modified playstation that plays backups without a problem. I recently purchased a premodified 39001 V7 magic2. It plays all original PS, PS2 and DVDs without a problem, but when I try a backup I get a red screen telling me to insert a PS or PS2 Format game. The backups still work on the modified PS and I tried burning a PS2 with CloneCD and using it in the new PS2. I still got the red screen. Any ideas, right now I basically own a regular PS2 that I paid a lot more money for.

how are you booting the PSX backup?
Check out BGs sticky post for Magic 2 boot methods.
Are you having this problem for both CD-R and DVD-R ?

I did see his post on the subject. From what I can tell I should be booting backups the same as originals. With the backup in the tray, and in standby mode, I hold the reset button for approx 5 sec (until the SONY TEXT fades away).

Playstation 1 games & DVD Movies
•Power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on.
•Then release RESET and the disk will boot.
MAKE SURE YOU HOLD RESET UNTIL THE BLUE LIGHT COMES ON..(It may be 5 sec, it may not. Just make sure the blue light is on)
Playstation 2 games
•Power up normally from STANDBY with RESET button. A single tap of the reset button is required.
NOTE: Turn off the PS2 (to standby) before changing Modes (PS1/PS2/DVD)
If you can't get any backups to work on your PS2 with this boot method, you may need to take it back to who you got it from and have them SHOW you that it boots backups....
