anyone know if cds can wear out. I have a copy of a program that i use on almost every machgine in the house and recently while building another one it started dropoing files on install saying that it was invalid. any ideas?

Years ago on TV in the UK when CD's were "The New Media" they claimed that you could sprend jam on them and all sorts of stupid things. However a few months later once they were launched to the public as a media choice and people managed to scratch them and made it not work they changed their minds about how good CD's are.

In reply to your question now the history lesson is over, they also say that they are biodegradable so to cut a long story short, even of you don't use a CD, eventually it won't work.

Granted it may not actually happen during your lifetime but it does mean they have the potienial to wear out.

Or as podunkviller says in the previous message "cds can wear out"

granted, pressed cd's take FOREVER to wear out, cdr's and cdrw's are much more sensitive. go figure :P
