I did it, I did it, I successfully installed a magic 2 into a V7 (if a fly by night cowboy like me can do it, then anybody can lol).

If anybody would like their V7 chipped........ do it yourself like I had to lol.

It took me 4 attempts to install the chip & on my last attempt heres a few things I did diff.

I was always happy with my soldering - never thought I had any bridges (even mnop). But I was only applying solder to the wire & not to the point on the board, This time I rubbed all the points down thoroughly with a fiberglass pencil then applied flux which was left to dry. Then I put a solder spot on every point, including the chip legs (mnop) which I had on previous attempts avoided like the plague!

Next thing I did to ensure a good joint was, actually try to pull the wire off after it had joined (obviously not too much force but nuff to move the board).

Lastly I placed insulation tape onto to the board where i was going to place the chip! Then stuck the chip to the tape. No way was my chip coming into contact with the board again (I think this may have been a prob).

Finally and most importantly, I asked loads of annoying questions on here & suspected my supplier of selling me a dud chip!

I'd like to thank comet, currys & toys r us for giving me a refund on the consoles I bust & I spose charlie 2 cos he aint a bad geezer (southern shandy drinking poofter lol)

Sorry peeps but I gotta go cos I got a waiting list for chipped PS2's lol

Not true..Not everybody can solder the Magic2..I'm not saying it takes God crafted hands or anything however you still need precise accuracy believe it or not..Just soldering it alone doesn't do the trick..It's not like the PS1 chips where you literally just chip the thing and it would work..
Ps2 direct boot chip takes some amount of accuracy more or less. Consider yourself slightly better than usual solderer..
I'll leave it at that..Good luck on your other batch of PS2's..

I agree with AO3, I have installed thousands of neo2, neo 2.2's as well as Origa- chips and none compare to a messiah or magic 2 installation. There is way less margin for error when installing a no swap chip. Alot of times you dont get 4 chances to install the same chip on the same console without frying a point.
Anyway glad to hear you got it worked out. Good luck with the other consoles :)

I'm a heavy handed, fat fingered clumsy tw*t!

If I can do it, then anybody with the patience can. Keep trying guys, & remember, if you f*** it up - take it back to the shop & complain lol.

You can resemble all u like m8 lol

Do you think it was mi soldering m8, comments about the lacquer on the board made me think, I wasnt makin any attempt to clean it off the legs (then went the other extreme n treated it like a brillo pad lol)
