View Full Version : PS2 DVD to DVD-R
I Have a Pioneer DVD-R/RW I just purchashed for making back up copies of my PS2 DVD games.
Here is my problem, hope you have the time to help.
How do i get the DVD PS2 Games to fit on the DVD-R disc? I have Cloncd, and a mod chip which copies and plays my CD PS2 games just fine but the DVD one's do not fit as per clone cd.
Do I have to go through all that ripping or is there a program out there that can do this for me? What am i doing wrong?
It is quite confusing as most of the tutorials listed are for back up to a CD-R disc not a DVD.
I spent the money on a DVD burner thinking this would solve my probelm but it still does not work.
Please Help if you can or direct me how to proceed.
My son is not very careful with the discs and when you have to purchase a 2nd copy of a game you aready own it kind of sucks.
Thanks

Which game are you trying to back up? Most are Dvd 5 which is one layer dvd. Those ones you can back up using primo by doing the direct disc to disc copy. There are only around 2 known ps2 games that are dual layered (DVD9), Those are the ones you'll have trouble backing up.
I answered this in the Private Message you set me.....
Also, you NEED to find out what type of mod chip you have because some CANNOT play DVD-R's....
The reason CloneCD isn't working for your dvd based game is cause CloneCD is only for CD based games not DVD. Also the reason your not finding tutorials for DVD games is because you dont really need to know anything except how to burn a cd. Just use PrimoDVD to make a backup of the game and your done.
C.R.G.
The first thing to do is not worry, the guys on this forum will help you.
Go to psxcopyworld.co.uk
look under tutorials and how to use either PRASSI or NERO is well explained by CHARLIE.
In the download section you can get hold of these programs for download.
If you have any problems with PRASSI recognizing your A04 you'll
need to upgrade something called the pxengine.
It's availeable from Veritas, i've downloaded it myself .
I always forget the exact link but i'll get it and post it here.
Argo.
Okay here's the Veritas pxengine link.
http://www.veritas.com/us/products/recordnow/drivers/
Look about half way down the page and you'll see the download
pxengine icon.

O.K i did burn three different discs using the Primo software, but i still can not get them to load. I put them in an my machine at the right loading time but all it does is make funny clicking noises not the normal booting up noises.
How do i proceed from here. are the burnt discs then problem or is it my machine. I am useing very good quality discs and have a Pioneer A04 DVD-R writer, what more do i need.
I have a chip and boot discs up with the Game Shark (I Know it is not the best way) but it works for everything else.
do i need to ajust my PS2 settings or clean the lasar.
Help....
We need to know what type of mod chip you have....There are different boot procedures depending on what type of chip you have.....And what version PS2 is yours?
Also you mentioned a clicking noise.....You can try cleaning the laser.......

what "very good quality discs" are you using?
I have now successfully Backed up my PS2 DVD with Primo however i can not get it to load. I have a Neo2 and a GS2 which works for everything else but this.
Help
I am using the Pioneer DVD-R discs that origiannly came with my burner. There Pioneer Brand, the Guy at the Cumputer store said they were the best and most expensive ones they had.
My PS2 Model Number is SCPH-30001
Help!!!
C.R.G,
Try this.
Go back to http:// www.psxcopyworld.co.uk
Click on tutorials.
Scroll down and click on Primo dvd.
Scroll right down to the bottom to the section numbered 304.
Boot methods for chips such as the Neo 2 etc.
Have a look and see if you can get the game to load by following
the boot methods for the Gameshark/ Neo chip combination.
Let us know how you go on.

Your serial don't by chance read SCPH-30001R does it.... If it has the R at the end, you have a V5 and can't boot dvd-r backups with the NEO 2.....
No there is no R at the end of the SCPH-30001
Thanks for all your help at least now it does not seam so complicated.
Boot Disc? I thought that the Game shark was to be used as the boot disc. but the Primo DVD boot instructions say to use one, what do you suggest.
C.R.G,
the boot disk refered to at psxcopyworld is an ORIGINAL
ps2 dvd game and is used in conjunction with the gameshark to fool the ps2.
The important part is it MUST have a T.O.C (table of contents)
larger than the T.O.C of the backed up game that your wanting to boot.
To find out what games have large and therefore effective T.O.C's
just use the search button at the bottom of the main forum sreen
and it should produce some previous links to T.O.C posts.
Let us all know how you go on, if you get it to work or if need anymore help.

You must use a original dvd game with a larger TOC than the backup you are trying to boot. To boot dvd-r you must have a GS2v 1.9 or better, First load the GS2 and power down the console by pressing and holding reset. Then restart the console by pressing and holding reset, do not let go, Allow the GS2 to completely load, With out letting go of the reset button press eject and swap with a original dvd game with large TOC. wait about 10 sec then select start game, without codes, release the reset button, the tray should eject, swap dvd original with dvd-r backup. Tray will close automatically, Press x to boot game.
This boot method works for neo2.2 chips on PS2 versions 1,2,3 and 4. If the tray doesnt eject after holding the reset for 5 sec and releasing then the console isnt capable of booting dvd-r with this chip.
C.R.G,
when using the search button just type in TABLE.
That will take you to a usefull previous forum page.
Look under the fourth one down SITES OF TABLE OF CONTENTS.
If you haven't got any of the large T.O.C original games you could try a cover dvd that comes with a ps2 magazine the only trouble being you won't know how big the T.O.C of it will be.
Make sure you follow the guidelines of psxcopyworld or WARLOCK
because they do know what there talking about.
Argo.
I am trying all your directions up to this point still without success at this time. I can not even boot the back ups when using the original. Should'nt that T.O.C be large enough
I backed them up them following the Primo DVD directions step by step.
In the browser screen all i see is the memory card and when the disc is installed it just goes to please insert a Playstaion 2 formated disc.
I am so close but when using the swap method it just stays frozen at the last screen (insert the disc and press x to start).
My GS2 is Version # 2
Should i just give up and get a different mod chip?
Well i will keep trying, persistence might just work.
Thank you for all your help.
C.R.G,
as far as i know the T.O.C of the dvd boot disk must be LARGER than the backup.
Therefore the original, being the same size as wouldn't work.
I think the frozen screen at the last point indicates this.
Is there anyone you know who has any ps2 dvd originals that you could try as the boot disk?
The other point to consider is even if you do get it to work the holding down of buttons and disk swapping isn't the easiest way to start playing a game.
A better chip with direct boot capabilities would of course solve
all the problems.
Argo.
I am now have some trouble booting the PS1 back up copys as it comes up 1/2 the time please insert a Playstion formated disc.
Is there a laser reading issue and is this the reason i can not get it to load my back up DVD games.
It still loads my CD PS2 games, PS2 CD back up and DVD movies just fine.
I looked it up i have a version 4 PS2. with my Neo 2 i should be able to load these in.
Still confussed.
Is there some where in the Alberta area of Canada i can get a direct boot mod chip so my probelms will go away.
I checked around here but have not had any success, everyone is pushing the Neo ones
C.R.G,
i can't help you with mod chip suppliers in Canada as i'm on the other side of the atlantic but it's interresting you say everyone is pushing the neo chips.
What about asking one of the people you spoke with when you were asking around.
Maybe you could take some of your disks and ask them to try them out like sort of a demonstration of how the neo works.
That way you would be checking your own disks and seeing what they do to get them to boot up.
Or just tell them exactly what problems your having and could they help, it might be worth it even if it involves a small fee and it would save a lot of time to offset that.
Argo.
The only Canadian place I'm aware of is http://www.modchip.ca
O.K here is what i have done for the boot procedure.
) Turned on the PS2 with GS2 Version 2 (holding down the ON/RESET)
2) Selected Start Game (Still Holding ON/Reset)
3) Press EJECT (while still holding the ON/RESET button) and swap GS2 with Boot DVD which had twice the T.O.C
4) Press EJECT to close (Wait 60 seconds)
5) Then select WITHOUT CODES. your to wait until disc stops, BUT MINE NEVER DOES.....IT JUST KEEPS ON SPINNING!!!!
6) Then I let go of reset and the tray comes out (With the Disc Still Spinning)
7) I Swaped Boot DVD for a backup DVDR then pressed X just
as the tray started to go back in but the Press X screen never disappears.
I Also tried variations on time and when to swap discs and when to push x. Still nothing.
When i am in the browser screen i can insert a DVD movie which the PS2 brings up and if i swap to the PS2 DVD-R Back up the game still brings up the gold disc but will not start.
When i am in the browser screen i can insert a PS2 DVD Game with a large T.O.C and the PS2 brings up the gold disc and if i swap to the PS2 DVD-R Back up the game goes to please insert a Playstaion formatted disc.
Again i have a Pioneer A04 DVD-R and used Pioneer DVD-R discs for the back up with Primo software
I have a Neo2 mod and a Version 4 system utilizing a GS2 Version 2.
The disc snow sound normal when tring to load but i still can not play the backed up PS2 DVD games, however all the other back ups still work great.
If you have any more help to ofter it would be appreciated. I hope i have provided enough info.

just a note...apparently some sphc30001 w/ a datecode of 1c have the 040 bios chip in them...a few magicII retailers, even charlieps2, say that this console will need to "R" chip.
) Turned on the PS2 with GS2 Version 2 (holding down the ON/RESET)
2) once GS2 is loaded Press EJECT (while still holding the ON/RESET button) and swap GS2 with original dvd game
4) Press EJECT to close (Wait 15 seconds)
5) Then select Gameshark codes and turn on or off any code on any game, Press start, select with codes, and press x to load game. A black screen will appear saying "updating codes list please wait" Time you see this release the reset button, tray will eject, swap original dvd with backup, tray will close and backup will load.
Nightstalker posted this method earlier. it seems if you are using GS2 v2x you must boot dvd-r with this method.
THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Finally it works. and here i thought i was going crazy. It is quite a bit of troulbe to load so i think i will still look for a direct boot mod in Canada once my fingers rest from all the gaming i will be doing over the next couple of days.
One thing.... When i try to boot my back up PS2 DVD of Superman It loads to the opening screen and frezzes saying the same word over and over. Is this a disc, loading or back up problem?
Thanks you to everyone who assisted me in my time of need.
I can not beleive all the the support I have got over the past few days.
THIS FORUM RULES !!!
C.R.G
C.R.G,
great news, now that it's working and your right this forum
does rule.
Great work from WARLOCK remembering nightstalkers previous
post (i told you he new what he was talking about).
I wonder if the booting methods for neo's/gamesharks/action replays could be made a sticky, as can be seen from this thread
it would have been really helpfull????
If you haven't allready got yourself a disk cleaner the cd type with little brushes attached it's a good purchase, keeps the lens clean, helps the laser read the disks etc.
Argo.
Argo.....I'm currently working on a post that will be a sticky when done... It will cover ALL of the mod chips currently available and the BOOT procedures for each.....It will take a little time considering the number of chips available and ALL of the DIFFERENT boot procedures... Maybe, I will be able to finish it this weekend.....
Excellent B.G.
I try and contribute a little to the forum with the bits i've picked up over the last year but i would know nothing
if it wasn't for the hard work and many hours spent by the
DIE HARD MEMBERS/ MODERATORS ETC.
You will have noticed how much it is appreciated by C.R.G's
last post when people help out.
It might sound corny or even patronizing to say it but
For all you guys.
THANK YOU.
It's what makes this forum THE BEST.
Argo.
Any boot procedures that you have please send them too me...It will help save me time...Just send it to my e-mail...Include: type of mod chip and all boot procedures...Thanks
Here is a new problem.
I bought more DVD-R discs (Apple) but my Pionner DVD writer just spits them out and will not copy. Why?
Also now that i have installed the DVD writer my CloneCD will not back up my PS2 CD games. it will not work from disc to disc or from the hard drive. Whats Up?
C.R.G
O.K. I got the Back up PS2 CD going without Clone Cd as the software provided with the Pioneer A04 DVD burer worked great with no trouble. I geuss i dont need the Clone Cd anymore.
What easily available PS2 DVD game has the largest T.O.C as i cant seem to find Devil may cry in my area.
I also got the Apple Discs working, one disc in my package was corrupt from the factory.

Clone CD will only work with your CD-RW burner....You can't use it with the A04...
Also.....You should not burn CD based games with the A04....Its not compatible with RAW+96 writing and cannot produce a 1:1 copy like a compatible burner and Clone CD can....
The backup seems to work great, will it do something to my PS2 or will it come into play as the game progresses as i only tried it for about five minutes.
I still have my old CD burner should i keep it or should the A04 work. My computer does not have any more ports so I would have to switch them out manualy when needed.
