Anyone up for a game of Help-a-n00b?

I'd like to get a modchip for my ps2 (version v5/v6 i believe) and get into making backups and using imports and such, but in such a field i thought it would be wise to consult some people with experience and get some reccomendations as to what i should be doing/buying.

So... as a total n00b, where do i start? buy a modchip off a website and install it myself? should i get one of the ones that require a gs2 or one of the no-solder ones so i cant mess it up? i work at a games store so i have access to quite a bit of stuff that i could borrow and return, and if my system gets messed up i can exchange it for free as long as its not destroyed or anything.

where do i go from here? any advice, oh wise ones? :)

oh duh... and whats the best way to make backups? do chips only work for some games or all?

where are you from - UK / US ?

If UK you can get mod chip (Messiah) through Charlie or Dust (south) or Andex (north) and even the install through them.

If you go for the messiah then you will have no problems. Disc in boot up play game.

For backing up methods the best site for newbies is www.psxcopyworld.co.uk all of the programs and tutorials are available there.

Don't waste your time with mod chips that require a gameshark....
Go ahead and get a direct boot chip.... Since your in the US I would suggest getting a Magic 2.....
Then ship your PS2 to Bill @ Freedomlives.com (http://www.freedomlives.com) and let him do the install(He's in Chicago)..... I beleive its only about $60.00 for him to install it....(Alot cheaper that damaging your PS2 and having to buy a new one).
NOTE: Unless you are a VERY EXPERIENCED solderer I would HIGHLY suggest not trying the install yourself....
