ya uh i was wonderin.. im gonna buy a USB mod chip off modchip.com and i was wondering a couple things.
1.Do mod chips play backup dvd's?
2.say i downloaded a back up (copyed) game from some program and put it on a cd would it work in my mod chip or do i need to add the patch found at megagames.com?
3. what do patches do and wht r they used for
4.how do u succsessfully copy a game and make it work on a mod chip (or download like a games bin and cue file)?
USB mods suck....(In my opinion):o
If you get a "Direct Boot Chip" such as the Messiah, Magic 2, Apple, or Matrix 2, then you just copy the game and play......
With the USB mod, you patch the game (not all), burn the game, then have to swap with a original game and have a gameshark or AR2 and use a funky A$$ boot procedure....
Seach the forum...And see how many have problems with a USB mod...
CHOOSE YOUR MOD CHIP WISELY......:D

my ps2 is V1, not most mod chips support mine, and wht do u mean i have to boot a orginal game? does that mean i have to have the actual version of the game i copied? also wht other good mod chips r there for V1?
Magic 2 and Matrix 2 both support the V1......
You have to have a original game to swap with....Not necessarily the same one BUT it has to be a ORIGINAL.......
Personally I would sell your ps2. I'm in the same situation. I dont want a crappy swap mod. I'm selling my v1 and getting a brand new v7. Plus v7s have a much better laser than the v1s have and thats important when playing backups. BG... Magic 2s only work if you have the 020 bios which most v1s dont have.
BUT, you can buy a NEW laser for alot less that a NEW PS2.....
I wouldn't say MOST v1's don't have it.....I've seen quite a few.....
AND even that small problem will probably be fixed very shortly....
AND ALSO, Keep your fingers crossed.......The new Messiah (aka Messiah 2) which is supposed to be released this month may also have V1 support....) At least we can hope......
Yeah you can get a new laser, but when you can get $220 for your v1 when you throw in a few original games which you can just backup if you want to keep them, its worth getting a brand new one. :D
:D GOOD POINT!!!!!!:D
If you can get that for your PS2, by all means sell it and get a new one.....
Shoyru25x... If you want to keep your v1 and know you have the 020 bios, I have a Magic 2 that I'll sell to you dirt cheap. I bought it for my ps2 but I had the wrong bios for it to work.
I would sell the PS2 and buy a newer version, Yes, you can replace the laser, (if you can find a site that sells lasers for v1) but all the v1 lasers i have seen are weak compared to v5 or newer.
