If this goes againts forum rules im sorry i didnt know, and yes i did read them and i dont think this applies.
Is it possible to burn DVD ps2 games, and play the backups on a moded ps2?
Currently I have a ps2 unmoded and my FFX got so scratched i had to buy a second copy because it wouldnt work anymore. Id rather just buy the games i like and play the backups so that i dont jepordize my games.
If anyone could tell me what i would need in order to make working backups of ps2 games id be really appreciative.
1.What kind of mod chip would i need, and where could i get it.
2.Would i need a dvd burner?
3.Would i need a gameshark or similar product.
Thanks!!

Hi Afterlife - your question is not against the forum rules.
It is perfectly normal to want to protect your games, and the answer to your questions is YES it can be done.
First of all you need some kind of modchip for your PS2. Without going into too much detail the chip kicks in when booting the game and allows you to boot up your backup games. The best mods at the moment are the Messiah of Magic2. Depending on what mod you have means whether or not you will need a gameshark/actionreplay2. My advice is to make the investment in a better quality mod such as messiah/magic (if your machine is compatible). The messiah is a direct-boot mod - meaning game in power on play away, no need for swapping discs. You would need to tell us where you are before we can point you in the direction of mod-sellers.
Secondly you need a DVD-Burner if you want to back up your DVD games. Pioneer A04 is the preferred choice by most on this forum.
Thirdly you need programs to copy the games. www.psxcopyworld.co.uk for these and their tutorials.
Fourthly you need some DVD-R media. Dont go for the cheapest out there as they will most likely fail to boot/play your games. Traxdata/Verbatim/TDK are good choices. www.bigpockets.co.uk or www.121cdr.co.uk (not sure of US sites if you are in US)
My advice is also to make some time to read through threads on this forum as this will improve your knowledge and potentially save you time in the long run.
Hope this is of some use to you, post back if you are still unsure.

i think the above post answers my question but i will ask it ne way just in case.
i am in the uk (derbys to be exact) so where abouts can i get my machine chipped? when i lived up north i took it to a shop in leeds to get my psx done!
i am giving some serious consideration to buying a ps2 just cause i have seem the game trailer to lotr: the two towers from ea games and it looks mint.
i still have my psx and backing up / booting games was a doddle with a £10 chip.
but what do i need / how much / and how would i go about it on this bigger brother? can i still play my old psx games on it?
i only have a cd burner, r the ps2 games on dvd since it has a dvd player - so will i need to upgrade?
sorry for all the question but i hope some1 can help
cheers

Don't know of any places in Canada but you can send your PS2 to Bill @ Freedomlives.com (http://www.freedomlives.com) and he could do the install for you....The price will vary depending on what chip and what version PS2....He does not supply ANY of the direct boot chips such as the Messiah or Magic 2, but you can get them from people on this forum....
