if i was u and only have a tnt i go get a
gforce2 mx 400 64 mg for arround 90 canadian dollard $$$
or a
gforce4 mx 64 mg for arround 125 canadian dollard
curently i have a gforce2 mx 400 wite
cpu 900 mgz
128 mg
and the omly game i cant play is Morowind and its only get bad wen i go outside
maybe wite more memory...
Just keep this in mind before you buy a new card:
All MX Geforce cards are cut-down versions compared to Geforce TI 4200 & 4600, that's why they are much cheaper. Also most MX cards have some compatibility problems with DX8.1
Just wait for the price to drop, read reviews and never buy a card as soon as it gets out - simply because you will pay a lot of money and you don't know if it is any good!

The best card out there at this moment is the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. However, ATI has a long and messy history of delivering crap drivers so you couldn't use their cards. Nvidia has much much better driver support. ATI claim they won't do that again but I'm waiting to see if the drivers for the 9700 actually get better support than in the past. Nvidia's NV30 WILL be better than the 9700, but it isn't here yet and will not be for quite a few months.
If you're choosing between a radeon 8500, 9000 or lower and a geforce 4 ti card, get the geforce 4. It all depends on how much money you've got ;)
i would wait for tha new nvidia BUT ati has a new one radeon all in wonder 9700 or sumtin for under 500 i dont no

there are so few games on the market that actually take advantage of directx 8's capabilities, and directx 9 probably wont become very useful, until the graphics card companies offer the game programmers a higher level language for programming effects into their games. wait for a card that offers this to developers, and oooooooo baby.....sweet looking games.

 what the hell ... CGS got hard hit on the head!!!
the onli difference betwin a normal gforce and a mx vertion is the speed and sometime the memori type to make it cheaper
i actually try in (two years) a lot of game and a lot of time (im a bad guy) that was beta vertion the test vertion given by the compagni get on pear to pear share
thats mean a lot of game whiout good driver or compatibiliti ane they all works great
and i pass throug direcX7 to 8.1 witout any problem
anyway
DONT BE A FOOL DONT BUY A "ALL IN WONDER" ... if u want to have a bad card that dont play all the game keep your tnt
and DONT BUY YET a big card that gone a eat all your money and be outdated in a few mounth
trust me buy this geforce 4mx 440 or 460 is the best for the cheap price
it can actualy run EVERY GAME whit average resolution and very good speed whit good driver and dual scren view for less than 125$$$$ (depend in which contry u r im from canada)
think the usa price can be around 70$$$$
even the best gforce4 ti are not so good at all they cost to much and they not so betther than the gforce2
betther whait for the best to come
and for shur all the price gone a go down
sis
3d lab
matrox
and some other i forgot ... gone a make a come back try to beat the two gian NVIDIA and ATI whit new gpu
u gest what is mean ... competition=price shut down...to beat competition:D

actually, mx cards dont have ANY pixel shaders on them, which defeats the purpose of buying a high end card, as pixel shading is used from directx 8 (correct if wrong) on. i believe the geforce 4 TI chips actually have 2 parts for pixel shading, as opposed to the one on the geforce 3 (and none on geforce 4 mx)...which makes the geforce 4 just a slightly faster geforce 2 card.
just going to put in my 2cents
i got a geforce 2 mx 100/200 64mg and it does a bangup job
you will need to consider how much $ you want to spend, what your monitor is capable of, and what your puter is capable of
try to upgrade evenly
p4 1.6ghz
vid (i already stated above)
512mg ddr (pc 2100)
i'll probly get ti4600 when it hits the $200 price range
Just throwing my 2p in. But peeps like GCS and podunk are right, the MX cards are very stripped down versions of Nvidias 'Hardcore' Gamer cards. Wouldnt listen to much of what benyhill says. He BS's all over the forum.
BTW: Assasin already mentioned in another thread that he purchased the ATI 9700 Pro.
yep :) u guyz took too long to reply

gf4 ti4400
Medal of Honor:
(1600x1200)=76 fps
(1024x768)=82 fps
gf4 mx440
(1600x1200)=45 fps
(1024x768)=66 fps
Look whats the point of quoting benchmarks from systems that would far surpass yours?? Try to run benchmarks on your own system.

that's wierd, i got a 40 percent increase from my old gf4 mx420 to my new gf4ti4600. I got a xp2100, a 40gb 5400 hd and a 120 gb 7200 hd, sb audigy gamer, and 512 mb of 2100 ram and I now get 12,000 3d marks in 3d mark se. with my mx420 i was getting 6,500 to 7,500 3d marks. Go with the card I got! the MSI VTD gf4 ti4600! It rocks! it just got a 10/10 in computer source magazine. cause it's so well rounded. first of all the price is AWESOME! it's only $270.00!!! the cheapest on the market for a 4600 right now i think, and it has better features such as Video-in, TV-Out, AND DVI-IN! PLUS DUAL VGA SUPPORT!!!! it comes with a converter to change the dvi out/in plug to a other vga out plug! so you can have two vga monitors! plus it comes with TONS of software including NOLF, Aquanox, and sacrifice. and ton of utility disks with full progs on them. and a s-video spliter! I'm telling you, for your money you cannot beat this msi card! and from what i hear the 4400 and 4200 msi cards aren't too shabby...

you probably cant play asteroids on a new computer, without buying a retro game, as my dos based asteroids wont run on a dos-less windows xp.
i prefer to deathmatch on unreal tournament, the original, as its just more fun when there is less to a game.
gta3 runs like crap. its hardly worth installing, when the ps2 is so much better.
nvidia does give very good prices - right on line with the ati cards. its when you buy a card from a manufacturer that buys nvidia chipsets, adds other features, and then stamps their name on it and charges 100$ extra, that you begin to realize who's gouging. hell, this chipset was probably tested on something fun like mentor graphics, which runs well over 10000 $ per workstation.
of course, you are just the guy badmouthing them cause your computer cant handle their badass chip, so what am i to do? consider upgrading your ram, and definitely a new processor, as you happen to have one of the few amd's that no one wants :P
